ILiveInFlipFlops
We don't have a place to build a permanent stone fire pit (though we will in a year or so when we take the pool down--all that sand will be perfect!). Our old one was bought on a whim for $15 on clearance 10 years ago, but now it's all rusted out and ruined. I'm looking at new ones, and I really love the ones I see with cutouts on the sides. I'm worried that fire or sparks will pop through the cutouts though. Is that unrealistic, or does it actually happen? We're looking for something on the larger side because we use it at get-togethers, like this maybe: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Hampton-Bay-Collette-Fire-Pit-L-FT629PST-A/203327260#.UcIAnha4RUQ Any other advice or thoughts from experienced users? Thanks!
Alte Veste Academy
We have that exact one. No sparks come out from the cut-outs at all. It is nice and large, great for a group of marshmallow roasters.

Our old one is so nasty, and the kids have been begging to roast marshmallows :D
happi duck
We like having a solid cover to keep water out. We also fill the bottom with sand so we have level surface and the fire isn't down in the pit.
