macmacmoo
We are going to Hawaii! DH had his levy briefing today. One of things they made them aware of is transportation is booked up a good month past the report date and that they should look into alternatives means of getting their stuff there. Ummmm. YELP?!? Advice? BTDT?
ILiveInFlipFlops
Er. Rowboat? Private yacht? A cruise ship might be nice. That's pretty odd. I can't imagine what else they would expect him to do! ETA: Oh, I see, this is just for household stuff--furniture etc.? That makes more sense. But still, what a hardship!
ElizabethB
PM Mrs. Mungo! When we moved to Germany, there was loaner furniture on the receiving end for up to 60 days, I would check into that. :grouphug:
Mrs Mungo
There is no loaner furniture in Hawaii anymore (at least not for the army, not unless you are an O-7 above who is living in historic housing). In fact, they are allowing people to stay in a hotel until they get their household goods for this reason. I wouldn't panic until after he actually talks to transportation and the company that will actually be moving him. Transportation gave us a date a week after we wanted to leave. We booked it, then talked to the moving company who pushed up our dates. If that doesn't work, then I would try one of two things: 1) see if you can get the report date moved, have him explain the transportation issue or 2) he goes ahead of you and you get an exception to policy to stay in housing until your move days. The trouble with the second option is that it will cause problems with your TLA, your DLA and potentially getting on the housing list (if you intend to live on post). I don't know what they mean by alternate means. How are you supposed to move your own stuff to Hawaii? It isn't like a next state over type of move. Totally strange. That would put me way over my allowed Household Goods weight. ;) Our weight is mostly taken up by books as it is. Books that are currently in boxes everywhere because only some of my bookshelves arrived intact.

Thank you Mrs Mungo, that is the reassurance I needed. :D What, you don't own a big boat just in case you need to move your own stuff to Hawaii? What kind of prepared military wife are you?? elfgivas
i'll add a couple of things to mrs. mungo's list. (a) find out if the hotel thing is a real option for you. might be more fun that staying behind, and will help you get on the housing list faster. (B) we are pretty good at camping in empty houses..... its an adventure.... and more than one quartermaster has been known to take pity on us. and the warning may be worse than the reality.... good luck! ann
