nansk
I had posted earlier asking which app I should get so I can write on PDF files on my Google Nexus 7 tab. I bought the ezPDF app but I cannot get it to write on any PDF file. I tried annotating the Math Mammoth files and the CIMT-MEP files. Nothing works. Each time I get a message "Annotation is not allowed. Access permission control was applied to this PDF file." I searched for this phrase online but didn't find anything helpful. My Math Mammoth files are the original, uneditable ones from 3-4 years ago. Can I annotate only special "editable" files? I feel really stupid; why can't I figure this out? Please help! Courtney_Ostaff
Generally, you can only write on whole-file PDFs if a) you save them as text first, or b ) you buy the complete version of Adobe Acrobat. Your alternative is to print them out, scan them as images, and then "write" on the images. If they are "fillable" PDFs, then you can write in the blanks, and print that out, but again, you can't save them without the $$$ version of Acrobat. You could actually print the PDF to another PDF writer on your computer, and then annotate that file. I cannot help you about picking one - it is built into my Mac. I haven't run into issues annotating on top of anything I have bought, it is just adding a layer I think (or doing a copy). I have an iPad so my apps won't help you either. mrs.m
I use print to Onenote and write on it in that program. (ugh, sorry, that is a Windows solution unless you can do it with the OneNote app. I wonder if you can with evernote?

boscopup
For Math Mammoth, e-mail Maria Miller and ask for newer copies of the files. She'll let you upgrade free. That's what I did, and mine work in ezPDF now. I'm not sure why MEP files aren't working for you. They work for me in ezPDF (at least MEP Reception does - haven't tried others). You might try contact the ezPDF authors and point them to the MEP files you're having trouble with. Maybe they can help you out (I know they at least listen to feature requests and such). Ditto for creating a second, annotatable PDF. She isn't asking for windows though, but for her android tablet, and my iPad is where the apps seem to do a layer on anything I throw at it. Although, the preview pp on my Mac works the same way, and anything can be "printed" as a PDF on the Mac. So you are printing it, then use that copy to try to annotate. nansk
Thank you to everyone who replied. 1. Tracey, I do have two Windows computers, and I tried to do whatever possible on the computers and then transfer the final, "editable", PDF to the Android tablet - nothing works. The EzPDF app on Android is not able to "do a layer" or create a second, annotatable PDF. When I bought it, this is exactly what I was hoping it would do, though. 2. I tried "printing" the PDF files to another PDF using CutePDF. I used to be able to do this on my old Windows computer - I would print specific pages to obtain a smaller file. On my new Windows computer, for some reason, CutePDF doesn't work this way. I will try to re-install CutePDF and try again. 3. My husband has the Acrobat full version on his computer. He tried to save the Math Mammoth file to another copy, but that copy is "non-editable", too. So I really don't know how to use Acrobat for this. 4. I will write Maria Miller and get the editable files. I was hoping to avoid this and just be able to use what I had. (Also, I hope I don't have to use the new CC-aligned files.) 5. I will contact the ezPDF authors. Thanks, Boscopup, for this idea. I am still feeling very confused, but I hope something works out.
