Um_2_4
I posted this on another area of the board, but thought some others might be interested. HTH someone: I ordered 3 of these: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/search.asp?keywords=slick%20ereader We are liking them. They are solid (physically). They are not fancy or touch screen. You can add a 16gb sd card (regular not micro or SDHC). I have loaded tons of free epub and pdf books and they all work. I even loaded mp3 audio books and old radio shows ("The Shadow" etc). It has no wifi, so you have to plug in into your computer to add files, but no biggie for me. I can't beat the price (DD wanted an mp3 player, and the "cheap" ones are more than this one costs). It comes with a cover and decent earbuds. Since so many here use older classic books, I thought I would add it. PS. I mainly got free books so far from these: project gutenburg, google books, booksshouldbefree.org and there are some more small publisher's sites that have picture books, you can just google them. ETA: Fixed link....sorry
DawnM
That takes me to a log in page. What is the item called?

DawnM
Thank you. I see it now. Where do you get books for this? Can you get them from Amazon?
Um_2_4
I downloaded mainly free from booksshouldbefree.org and project gutenburg (this is the children's section: http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Category:Children%27s_Bookshelf). I do not think Amazon kindle books would work. It only supports .epub and pdf files. (doesn't kindle use it's own format?) And any pdf you have will work (MM, Mr Q etc...) You can google "free epub books for kids". My DS9 likes Tom Swift, Burgess, Nesbit. They also like to listen to free audio books (I get most of mine from here: www.booksshouldbefree.org) and old radio shows (http://www.oldradioworld.com/). chiguirre
Thanks! I picked one up for Geezle. It will work with our library's Overdrive software so we can get lots of non-public domain titles on it.
elegantlion
Sending you a batch of virtual cupcakes!! I've been looking for something like that simply for pdfs and free books. I can't afford a kindle. These are $45 on Amazon I just checked, mine was $22 with shipping. Whoo hoo!

Peach
Also, I've found lots of free classics on BN and Amazon. BN's blog also has a free ebook every Friday, and Amazon has their daily deals with ebooks around $2 everyday.
Allearia
Wow, thank you! I just ordered 2. It looks like I can also put ePub books from Overdrive on there. Wonder how the video and mp3 capabilities are? Either way they look awesome for an upcoming long trip for the kids to read! So much cheaper than the cheapest kindle. Wonder how the video and mp3 capabilities are? Either way they look awesome for an upcoming long trip for the kids to read! So much cheaper than the cheapest kindle. The mp3 sound is good. DD listens to it without headphones and it fills her bedroom. The ear buds included are actually really good (but a bit big for my kid's ears LOL). I haven't tried the videos yet (keeping that for a long trip or something.) This video on youtube tells you how to load videos on to it: I am working on figuring out the overdirve right now. I got some books from google books and you just install adobe digital editions and it puts the epub file on your PC, then the ereader just looks like a flash drive. You just copy and paste. DH absconded with the 3rd one  .
jhschool
One of the reviewers on Amazon said there was a chemical smell coming from it. Can you guys notice it? I am very sensitive to chemical type smells so this would be a deal-breaker for me. Otherwise, this sounds perfect for my needs.
Um_2_4
I smelled nothing with all 3...and I too am sensitive (my DH more so). I just returned a cover for my tablet on ebay b/c of the smell...(like petroleum) maybe she got a "freak" one. I had only one problem with a pdf file and I think that was the site I got it from, not the reader. I tried that same file on my computer and could barely read it, so....(font/size/etc)
Gentlemommy
The link isn't showing any results.:-(
Allearia
I just got my two I ordered, they are even better than I expected! I think I ordered the last two, right after I ordered they were out of stock. Too bad, I might have ordered more! That is why the search results link doesn't work. Thanks again! I can't believe what I got for that price.
