unsinkable
My DD told me that she has seen it on Facebook. Is this a new thing? I'm not on FB so I haven't noticed but I googled a little and saw some articles.
Joker
I've seen a few from those who have fathers who are not involved in their lives. They've been along the lines of thanking mom for being both mom and dad for them.
Lara in Colo
I did this for years! My mother was my only parent (my father was there--just not very caring or participatory). HER mother died before I was born and mother's day was an issue as it brought lots of pain for her. She was (and is) a very capable person--she builds fences and did the landscaping and repair work. So we gave her stuff for father's day.
Julie Smith
I am. But that is because we switched the holidays. For Mother's day Dh got a nice meal, and a new board game. I'm getting the same of Father's day. Every Mother's day just happens to match up with really bad allergy season for Dh. So every Mother's day he is sick and gets waiting on hand and foot and pampered. So we switched them. ETA: But in our family we call today Mother's day. Both boys pretend that all the signs in town advertising Father's day really and truly say Mother's day. They think it's fun to do so. Mona100
Yes, people have been wishing me a Happy Father's Day for years. In fact, someone told me Happy Father's Day. It is basically for single moms who have not had the father particpate in the child's life.

Luanne
My daughter usually does, but that is because her father left us when she was only two.
redsquirrel
We always wished our mom happy Father's Day. Mostly because our dad was no where to be found.
Audrey
Haven't seen that. Don't really care either way. Hallmark holidays aren't of much interest or importance to me. YMMV.
amo_mea_filiis.
A friend of mine is a single father. We both wish each other a happy Mother's and Father's Day.
MomtoCandJ
I've noticed among single moms
swellmomma
I have seen it (and received it) for being a single mom to kids without an involved dad (first to all 4, and then once the teens dad started to be in the picture again, for just the littles)- for having to be both for the kids. I have also seen it the other way and have wished it to single dads on mother's day when they are both mom and dad to kids without an involved or living mother. zoobie
I don't think it's a new trend. One of my best friends growing up always celebrated Father's Day with her mom. Her dad was an abusive jerk who ran off when the kids were small. Her mom passed away 12 years ago and she still posts about her on both Mother's Day and Father's Day. The new "trend" is probably Facebook. Otherwise we wouldn't know what a hundred or more people are doing on a random day. :)
