Cricket
Who is using it this year for high school? Or who has used it? I think I've decided to go with it but at our home school convention today I looked at Omnibus IV. It is put together nicely and I wouldn't have to plan much at all! Anyone care to share ninth grade plans for HOAW? Like primary sources especially!

Parrothead
I'm planning on using it in conjunction with Spielvogel' s western civilization a brief history (2007). I'm also tracking down pertinent websites and other materials to put together the history component to our great books study. It will be a couple of weeks before I'm finished (still waiting for books to come in), but I'll share what I come up with when I'm done. Why are you using Spielvogel and the Bauer book? Is HOAW not enough on its own?
Parrothead
Simply put, I'm starting to think variety is good. Different authors bring different things to the table. And I got the Speilgovel cheap at amazon. It cost me more to have it shipped than to purchase. So why not bring it out too. Kind of like those moms who have more than one math book going on at the same time.
Cricket
I found a couple links of courses using HOAW: https://umdrive.memphis.edu/cdykes/History%203320/History%203320%20Syllabus.docx http://nagrait.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/his141_syllabus_sp10.htm
Starr
Dd used it. She loves SWB's books. All things are compared to these 2 history books. She read, outlined and wrote papers.

TC5
Cricket, what a great resource! Thank you. Have you put together a schedule for the whole book? If so, I'd love to see it. Teonei

mommybee
We use HOAW and Omnibus as well. I used to have him summarize each chapter of HOAW but now he just reads and we discuss. Sorry I can't help with planning, but I'm not much of a planner and we have always done lots of history so my high schooler didn't need too much more in depth stuff. I have and use all the Omnibuses though cause I just love them. But we pick and choose a good assortment of books to read from each, not all of them. I would read them all if we had more time. We only do a handful of the extra writing assignments.
scrapbookbuzz
I have the book in digital format for my personal use. Bought it from Google Books. never thought about using it for high school! May have to assign some reading out of it for my high schooler!
Cricket
Cricket, what a great resource! Thank you. Have you put together a schedule for the whole book? If so, I'd love to see it. Teonei Not yet. I also revised what I posted earlier. I decided to make a separate Bible course and have my 9th grader read through the entire Bible, along with articles, commentary, etc. it will probably take a couple of years. So I just moved all the Bible reading to that "course". I really don't care how it is labeled but if he ever decides to go to college end day (right now he has no plans to at all), I figure I better have all his work organized into courses. I did download the sample chapters of the study guide. That is helpful! It also gives him something to do if I am busy and can't discuss the chapter with him. I'm having him do some writing with the study guide and some discussion. But they just pushed back the date of availability to Some time in October!
