truebluexf
I'm having a hard time deciding here. We have not done Latin. Worldly Wise 3000 seems to work on more skills, with reading comprehension sections and such. It also happens to be scheduled it in SL, which is convenient since DS is using that next year. It teaches I think 200 words, which is pretty good. I would definitely use it at least one grade level ahead for him, since reading is his forte. It seems to have more components to help with general test prep (we do the CAT every year to meet requirements.) Vocabulary from Classical Roots appears to have more difficult words, and I like the way they are grouped so you learn the roots. My thoughts are it will extend to general vocab needs more readily. It is however shorter and includes no "extras" like WW does with reading. For DS, I would go with A for more challenge. My DD would be on grade level. What are your experiences? I'm feeling drawn to include vocab in our work this year. If we aren't going to get to Latin, we need something to extend ourselves a bit in that area. lauracolumbus
We only use WW b/c we are also studying Latin. I spend half the year using Spelling Workout (which is more of a vocab program as it progresses) and the other half using WW. I like WW b/c the lessons are broken into very small bite sized pieces for days when we're busy. Other times, I'll assign 4 days worth so that we can use both programs. It's very workbooky, but there are many times when I like that aspect. I thinking the reading comp is the most important part as it somewhat mimics standardized testing. My dd9 does not mind doing it at all. I remember looking at VfCR and thought it was too difficult for whatever age my older kids were at the time (probably 4th or 5th). tomandlorih
Would it work for your ds to do VfCR and then use the free WW online games and stuff for fun?
Walking-Iris
Maybe both and stagger the work? A child could get through one book of WW in one semester easily. And then one book of Vocab in the next semester. I do that most of the time.... Plan on finishing something before xmas and starting something new in spring. I've used WW and I really like the program. I've stopped using it since it felt like extra busywork on top of everything else we were doing. I've seen the Vocab books and really like the look of them. Either one is going to be a safe bet IMO.
truebluexf
Thanks. I haven't totally decided, but I'm thinking maybe WW this year for ease since we are doing things very differently next year (for example, DS will be doing SL E independently while DD does something different) and with it scheduled out already, it will just make it logistically easier and flow better. Then maybe start with the other one for 7th. That's my plan this minute anyway, it could change lol.
