Aloha2U
I had thought we'd work through ALL 1 over the summer, so that we could start our 4th grade year afresh with R&S (after finishing FLL 1-4), but now I think we want to play all summer. :) So... those of you who've used the first 15 weeks of ALL 1 and then switched to R&S English, did you just start at beginning of the level that you chose (R&S 5 or 6), possibly completing only the first half-ish of it during the year and beginning the following year with the second half-ish? Aloha2U
I seriously can't make up my mind about exactly how I want to go about this. I know that I want us to do ALL 1 before switching to R&S, so... if I did have us work through ALL 1 this summer, then we'd have to march double time in order to complete it... before starting the next school year (this fall) with R&S. If we do indeed take the summer off, I could just start ALL 1 this fall and then move into R&S during our second semester, but I don't think I want us to make it only half way through R&S English. Would the first half of R&S 6 be a repeat of the first 15 weeks of ALL 1, so that we wouldn't get to new material until the following year, or is it different enough that it's not a big deal? Perhaps a silly dilemma, but anyone care to share what you have done or recommend? :bigear:
abrightmom
My 2 cents ... Just curious why you want to tackle R&S 6 after FLL 4 or ALL? R&S English 5 is considered a pivotal year with R&S. It's a pretty thick, meaty tome. I'd start there regardless.
Aloha2U
Good question. Being that FLL is a bit more advanced than R&S and judging from the samples I've seen, as well as what I've read on these forums - from those who've done FLL 1-4 and then switched to R&S, it seems as though Level 5 (and, somewhat, even Level 6) are an unnecessary, repetitive review. What's more, it's my understanding that Level 5 is pivotal only for those who previously haven't been exposed to formal grammar.
nansk
If I were you, and I really wanted to ALL, I would then skip those ALL topics from whichever R&S book I started afterwards. Not sure if that would be the first half of R&S. Also, even if you choose to do all of R&S (5 or 6) and only get say, half of it done by the end of 4th grade, you are still ahead and can continue doing the rest in the next school year.
