American History/Sonlight D extras

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for creative things to add in to my dd's history program for 3rd grade. We'll be going (slowly) through Sonlight's Core D (older version) and I've been looking online for extra activities, picture/non-fiction books, videos that pertain to this program specifically, and to American History in general. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? I'm really looking for DVD suggestions. We don't watch a lot of TV, and having videos that tie in to what we are learning have been SO VERY helpful in the past....

Not sure the ages of your kids, but we are planning on watching Liberty kids when doing that time period next year. I lined up a lot of picture books and biographies with the SL core D books on my blog along with a few crafts we plan to do...not sure if any of that is what you are looking for...

I can't remember if it was Core D or E but we got some history kits from Hands N Hearts for that time period. Colonial, West Expansion, Civil War times. History Pockets had a civil war book we also used. And mine loved Liberty's Kids videos. We bought them but they are now on Amazon streaming. (free if you have prime) I have seen so much more now online that I think google would be your friend here in finding activity kits.

I've never used sonlight but....

The history channel put out a series called America: The story of US, or something like that. I'm not sure of the recommended age range though. Liberty's Kids is also really great.

The Scholastic Teacher Express website also has some neat American history resources. The "Easy Make & Learn" series has a couple of books with a printable mayflower model, model of Jamestown, & a bunch more printable crafty things. There's also a "Hands on History" series that has printables that are more like lapbook components, where writing is required. And then there's also an American history timeline book, and it seems like there's something else I'm forgetting as well...
