Bonnie in VA
They are familiar with the original Star Trek series, and don't tend to scare easily. Would this movie be okay? Thanks -- Bonnie
BigMamaBird
There is an absolutely pointless, 3 second shot of a woman in her underwear. No reason what so ever. And Kirk wakes up with two women, jumps out of bed and runs off. So there's that. The action is pretty intense, but there's no gratuitous, gory blood. There are some pretty brutal fist fights and a guy breaks a woman's leg by stomping on it. Lots of camera movement, explosions, loud fast movement. There's also one fairly sad death scene. momofkhm
I agree with BigMamaBird. A lot of people die on screen, but not a lot of blood. But familiarity with the original doesn't really matter. Did they see the first one in the re-boot? There are differences in the relationships from the series.. If they saw the first one, they will be ready for those. Have they seen newer movies? Dh and I and the girls just watched the original Khan episode and the Wrath of Khan on Netflix. 60's and 80's. VERY different in terms of action, explosions, camera movement, violence. Similarities galore, but also very different. I would not have taken my kids at those ages. But YMMV.

Spryte
Have you read the reviews on Common Sense Media? We did, and opted not to take our 9 year old. He doesn't scare easily, but we read about one scene that made us decide to wait.

gardenmom5
I have not allowed my 8yo to see ST 2009. some scenes I've paused if he came into the room. He won't be seeing the new one when it comes out on dvd either. not until he is older. the olders, dh and I have all seen the new one. Bonnie in VA
Thanks for the responses. I did read the Common Sense Media review, but I wanted to see what WTM folks had to say, too. I think we'll let our two older kids see it, but wait for the younger two.
Moxie
The theater I saw it at had a preview for some cheerleader show. It was pretty much half-naked woman simulating having relations with the floor. That was the worst part of the movie. The Oreo commercial was super cute!
Slartibartfast
If one let their child watch the 2009 reboot then this one should be ok. I would allow it but what I allow is very different than what others allow.

He says a couple scenes are pretty intense.
Garga
I took my 8 and 10 year olds. They were fine, and the 8 yo scares easily.
