Tap
I worked in my garden the other day and got a bad sunburn on my upper back. I was only out 3 hours but paid the price severely. I treated it with aloe and Alba lotion several times that day. As a regular part of my routine,I use sesame or grape seed oil on my skin daily. The next morning I used sesame oil after the shower and then aloe/lotion the rest of the day. I don't know what triggered the prickly heat, but my guess is the oil. My back is covered in prickly heat pain! Horrible pin pricks, almost constantly, all over my upper back have kept me awake for two nights now. It hurts like the dickens! During the day it hurts, but I am at least busy and distracted. At night it sets in and doesn't let up till morning when I get out of bed. The first night, I don't think I slept more than 2 hours, after falling asleep and waking up every 5 minutes from pain. I finally gave up and got out of bed. Last night, I took a cold shower put hydrocortisone cream on it (recommended by Mayo clinic), took anti inflammatory meds, took a sleeping pill and kept a large ice pack on it all night long. I slept for a bit over 4 hours, but then my med started wearing off, and the ice pack wasn't cold any more, so I just tossed and turned from there. Any other ideas to try tonight? From what I have researched it lasts about 3 day but can last a week or longer in certain cases. Uggggh !!!! 3 hours of sunshine was sooooooo not worth this pain! MusicMama
Yes! One of my infant twins gets a heat rash in the folds of her neck from constant drooling. I take a warm, damp cloth, and dab it in some baking soda. Then I gently wash the area. It works. I see relief overnight, and it will totally clear up in about 3 days. Keep away from all oils and lotions until it has cleared up. Hope you feel better soon!
ebunny
I've used Calamine lotion with success on my Dd's heat rash. Aloe vera gel (unscented) will also work just as well to soothe the burnt skin. Another option is to dust the affected part lightly with cornstarch. The powder absorbs any oil/sweat and reduces the prickly feeling. HTH

Wait until evening if you have little kids because it will make you drowsy, but benadryl tends to help. It's a histamine reaction. You could try something like Claritin in the mean time. Sorry to say I got it for years when I'd exercise after eating pasta. I later read it's a common sign of a mild wheat/exercise allergy. If you also have dark circles under your eyes, definitely stop eating anything with whole wheat, and consider trying a trial of gluten free for a few weeks (the other grains that contain gluten are often contaminated with wheat anyway). Absolutely do not under any circumstances decide to "get healthy" and that your allergy is "all in your head" and eat 100% whole wheat bread while you are on new antibiotics. That's what made my mild allergy turn into a swelling up, throat closing never-eat-flour-again disaster.
idnib
In SE Asia they sell prickly heat powder and it really helps. It's on Amazon but if you want something sooner the closest thing I've found sold in stores in Gold Bond Medicated Powder. Also comes in extra strength.
