*Michelle*
I've been trying to get excited about the whole timeline idea, but I'm really not feeling it. I'm thinking I may just order this and call it a day. Is there something about a timeline that is so unique that a visual history book cannot provide the same experience? *Michelle*
Or this one?
tammyw
We aren't going to make a timeline, if that's what you mean. It just doesn't appeal to me. But I do want to buy one in a nice book form. This is the one I've been looking at: http://www.amazon.co...ywords=timeline Now you've given me more options to look at. We need to help each other decide which one is best :)

I'm going to cross the second one I posted off of the list because one of the Amazon reviews says it has quite a few errors.
RootAnn
I checked out your blog for clues as to your kids' ages. You have little ones! IMO, you don't need a timeline for such small kids. I found that my older (logic-stage) kid understands & responds more to a timeline than any of my youngers. So, if you are "not excited" -- just don't worry about it yet. When they go back through history the second time, start 'pinning' those memories from the first go-round onto a timeline (book/wall/whatever). It is a lot easier to make connections between what was happening in different civilizations at the same time or how one thing affected another when your kids are older. YMMV. I've noticed that my kids are slower than many on here whose kids pick up things much easier & earlier, retain them better, and move onto higher level everything sooner. Mine are much closer to average (normal)? :gnorsi:
Arcadia
That one was on my list too! :) I like that it has the timeline across the bottom of the whole book. I'm going to cross the second one I posted off of the list because one of the Amazon reviews says it has quite a few errors. I have the second one and it was an easy reference for my boys. Both the 2nd and 3rd book you posted are by DK. Usually books by the same publisher has the same chance of errors. Both are sold at Barnes and Noble if you want to look at the actual books. My library has copies too. ETA: At your kids age, I won't worry about a timeline at all. All history references I have read were slightly biased in coverage, just pick whatever history reference books you are comfortable with off your library. I think this is one of the reasons why it wasn't very appealing to me. At this age, I'd be the one doing all the work and my oldest isn't really going to get much out of it. Might as well stick to looking at pictures in a book and let him do the work himself when we swing around again. :)
Eagle
I was trying to justify getting this book because it has a timeline in it: http://www.amazon.com/Kingfisher-Atlas-World-History-10000BCE-present/dp/0753463881/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Now my 5th grader is doing one, on our second trip through ancients, but I'm still not making the 3rd grader.

It looks like it would be a nice one for each year of the grammar stage.
*Michelle*
I wound up ordering the Kingfisher Atlas of World History this morning. Thanks for all the input!
ByGrace3
I have bought a timeline two years in a row and not gotten to it. I think it is one of those things we will utilize for logic stage.
