hsbeth
My DH served back in the late 80's-early 90's. We have somehow misplaced the only copy we had of his DD-214 and need to get our hands on that in a hurry. His new employer needs it so that they can credit his years of service on the pay scale. We are now in GA, but dh lived in MA at that time. It was a tiny town, and he thinks their VA office has it, but they are only open for 2, 3 hour windows each week. Requesting online seemed to take 90 days. There has got to be a faster way?!? We live very close to Ft. Gordon, but dh never served there. Any chance we could go over to post and get some help or is that a waste of time? Local VA office in GA even though dh never lived here during his service? Dh's new teaching position can't issue his contract without this. His old school claims to have misplaced their copy to but "generously" offered to copy his entire 200ish pg personnel file for us at $.25 per page in case it was misfiled. They won' t look through it themselves or allow us to without paying to copy the whole thing. :/
JuanitaL
Try googling retiree services . You might have to call military records in St. Louis.
MyThreeSons
Do you have a Veterans Assistance office in your town? Perhaps they could help. Or call your Congressman. (That's what they always say, LOL.)
Mrs Mungo
DH says he is not sure, but to try calling Retirement Services or Enlisted Personnel Division at Ft Gordon. They are often listed in the blue pages of the phone book. Some posts have a good phone directory on their website. Otherwise, he says the next best bet is local VA. KungFuPanda
Here's a lead worth pursuing. It says to go through National Archives. A phone number is in the article. http://www.dd214.com/va-home-loans_missing_dd214.php I was in the military in the dark ages before the Internet. We were warned to have official copies stored in courthouses everywhere we lived. We were told if we lost it we could never get a true replacement because the replacement was a dd215 . . . or something like that. I ⤠the interwebz! It might be worth a trip to the records office of his former employer. You may be able to talk to a manager or make them uncomfortable enough to give you what you want to get rid of you. Jean in Newcastle
This must be some kind of a form or something? I thought - her dd is 214 years old? Or it is her 214th dd? (Don't mind me. I'm no help but it did throw me for a loop!)
PentecostalMom
Here is the "official" site: http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/about-service-records.html
2squared
We were warned to have official copies stored in courthouses everywhere we lived. This is what my dh does with his separation papers or whatever they are called. It's one of the first things he does when we move.
