thundersweet
I found out about it from one of the dyslexia yahoo groups I joined yesterday. I am using LOE to teach reading and spelling but this program has intrigued me! I am learning my son is a VERY visual learner. This program puts characters to the phonograms. I had my son do the spell magic free lesson and he loved it! The best part is he learned to spell two words he didn't know how to spell....feed and deaf. I spent some time on the phone with the company afterwards. The girl on the phone now works for the company because her son was reading at a K level at 9 yrs old. 7 months later he was up 3 grade levels and is now a great reader and speller. I later asked my son to spell the words he had learned earlier. I'm 100% positive he would not have remembered this btw. He spelled both words correctly! He said it was easy to remember. I KNOW he would have spelled feed as fed and deaf as def. His spelling is very phonetic, he just can't spell. Lessons are 10-15 minutes per day. I am not willing to give up having my son learn all of the OG phonograms and spellings rules, but I'm thinking this is just what he needs. The visual aspect just works for him. Anyone heard or know anything about it? http://www.easyreadsystem.com Sandy
Pen
1) I've not heard of it. 2) I could not make the link work. 3) What you describe sounds like it is a good fit for your son. If I were deciding, I'd give it a try. 4) If my son had been given a programwhere he had to memorize all the OG phonograms and rules, he still would not be reading, i don't think. thundersweet
I fixed the link. It's a lot of information to wade through. At this point, I'll try it if it helps my son make sense of if all. I asked my ds to spell the words again before bed and he did! He's so amazed that I am so happy.lol I asked him to spell play and he said p-l-a-e. Bless his little heart. I'm sure once he sees it the easy read way, he'll finally get it. Weird, this visual learner thing! Sandy
Lecka
It is not how my son learns. If it works for him I would try it.... Especially for spelling. If the reading he is doing is going well, I would probably not change. I don't know the exact title but there are right-brained and visual learner books with strategies like this. Once you see one on Amazon all the others will show up together. I think sometimes you have to experiment... It is hard to know ahead of time.
