farming_mum
Hi, My DS8 and DD7 are mad on audio books at the moment, as they are bored with DVD's, and we do quite a lot of driving. We have already listed to all the Roald Dahl audio books even though we have read most of them anyway and even I loved listening to them. The car goes deadly quiet when there is someone talking, or telling a story :) I was thinking of getting the Eragon series and Odyssey as well. I know there was once a list of books that everyone should read/listen to at least once in their lives on the forum, but I find it anywhere. Has anyone seen it? Or know of something similar? Looking for more the classic type books, for example, Charles Dickens, Homer, Mark Twain. Thanks from Australia! :D

Thanks from Australia! :D With such young children (ages 7 and 8), I'd be sure to NOT MISS all the wonderful classics for children FIRST. You only have this window open ONCE for reading the wonderful children's literature when your children ARE children... Eragon, The Odyssey, Dickens, Homer, Twain, etc. are wonderful to save and read/listen to in late middle school / high school. :) That said, here are links to some past threads with great book lists. Hope one of them is the one you were thinking of! Warmest regards, Lori D. List of classics separated by approximate grade level? Harriet Vane
There are some wonderful audio books by Richard Peck. Focus on the books that feature Grandma Dowdel as the main character--you will be laughing out loud. Some other fun ones: Hank the Cowdog Narnia series Cheaper by the Dozen My Family and Other Animals A Cricket in Times Square
Jane Elliot
My 8 and 10 year olds are hooked on the Redwall series right now. We haven't been able to get all of them on audio, but the ones we could get are wonderful. They read the ones we can't get on audio.

A few we have really enjoyed, though not classics; Warriors by Erin hunter - Listen to first few, and let to a love affair with Erin. We have all her book now. How to Train your Dragon series very funny Guardians of Ga'Hoole series - good animated movie to watch after. HTH

taffnus
Have you seen Tales 2 Go? It's awesome!! I subscribed in January and my girls have gone wild listening to books. You can see their selection online. I highly recommend, especially if you have a 3G or 4G mobile device. If not, you can still listen to a book in the car but you have to download it before leaving a wifi area. Not nearly as convenient but we try to make it work. The biggest problem is deciding which book to listen to.
