hollyh
Hi. I did a search, but couldn't come up with the answers. Do you think the teacher's manual is necessary for the program? From the samples, it didn't look like it to me. What about the game cards? They seem pretty pricey for what seems to be a simple memory game? Thoughts? On a different note... I'm thinking that I would do well with this program b/c it seems to be more of a workbook-y like program. I do well with visual things that I can mentally check off my list. However, I have access to Salsa Spanish along with Discovery Ed's Elementary Spanish. I've only watched either of those once... can't seem to remember or take the time to use them... So what do you think...should I try SSS or commit to doing one of the video ones?

Zuzu822
I just bought this, but we haven't started yet. From flipping through, I think you could do it without the TM (I said the same to my mother when I was showing her the materials, in fact). It did have some supplemtary pages in the back, but similar things could probably be found free online or created yourself. The game I'm not as sure, but I'd expect the same! HTH! zoo_keeper
We've done many, many Spanish videos already (e.g., Salsa, First Step, Elementary Spanish, Whistlefritz, El Perro y el Gato, etc.) but I still didn't think enough was getting done. So we're about halfway through SSS without the TM (both my 6 and 8 yos are doing the program) and it's not a problem at all to grade them. While I have a Spanish background, my husband doesn't and he doesn't have a problem flipping back a page or two to see if they correctly matched up vocab words. Further, we're also doing SSL without the TM and the grading is also going just fine without a Latin background for either of us. But while we don't have the TM, we do have the cards. I try to get to the playing cards on the weekends and play a few hands of memory or go fish. The girls love this part the best, but you could of course make flashcards yourself (I just would never get to this project so I bought the sets). Good luck! Punchie
We're on lesson 24 of SSS (for point of reference).... I love it, DD loves it, and I'm sad that there won't be a SSS2 by the time we need it. It's gentle, but allows for you to keep practicing if you need to. We do have the TM and cards. I didn't think I would use the TM, but I have used it w/over half of the lessons and all of the review lessons. I like the extra worksheets I can print out to help reinforce what we've learned. I do the same with the cards. We play go fish, old maid, and memory with them. But, you could make your own for less $$. Again, playing the games has helped retention. We also make up little plays/dialogs with the puppets we've made during various lessons.
hollyh
Are you saying that the TM has extra worksheets for review? What does the TM have that you use? From the sample what I remember was more of an answer key- which I don't think I would need.

From the sample what I remember was more of an answer key- which I don't think I would need. It does have an answer key in the front, along with helpful hints (I've never used it). I pretty much only use the TM for extra worksheets. It's not necessary, and you could figure out something to do on your own. I just like it b/c then it's one less thing I have to create. If you're not a worksheet person, then it probably isn't worth it.
