Marie131
I know it doesn't cover spelling, but other than that do I really need to supplement?
NittanyJen
I have not tried to use the writing component for actual writing. Otherwise, I would never dream of supplementing it, myself. The grammar, poetics, and vocabulary have been amazing and stand by themselves quite well.
Five More Minutes
I don't think the writing is enough in MCT. The exercises assume a child is learning to write elsewhere. I use WWE for writing instruction. MCT doesn't cover spelling, either. But it's an amazing grammar, vocabulary, and poetry program!
Crimson Wife
MCT is lacking in mechanics practice IMHO. When I was using MCT by itself my DD's ITBS subtest scores for capitalization, punctuation, and usage were relatively low compared to her other verbal scores. I started supplementing with Evan-Moor Daily Paragraph Editing and her scores improved quite a bit.
