Hannah
We are struggling to find clothes locally for my short, curvy 13yo. I thought we'd try Ebay next. Which brands should I be searching for.
Mrs Mungo
Nobody caters to short teens or adults in the US. I am 5'1" and I have to have everything hemmed.
AngieW in Texas
How short are you talking about? My youngest is 5'4.5". She has done best at Delia's. Their jeans come in short, regular, and long. The short actually fits her in length. Sometimes she can wear their shorts and pants without a belt. She is very curvy. She hasn't been able to wear pants or shorts from anywhere else without a belt. The new high-waisted shorts they have actually fit her as-is. ETA: I didn't notice that you are in South Africa. Here is a link to the website for Delia's. You can search for pants by length here. http://store.delias.com/category/bottoms/jeans/view+all+length.do?incmpid=JeansGuideBottomsNavByLength
jillian
Gap was a godsend for me because of the short/regular/tall pants. if she's busty as well as short and curvy though it's going to be even more difficult.
Ottakee
My curvy 15dd who is 5' tall can find jeans at Cato. She wears an 8 in most things but wears a 10 petite from Cato-----their petites seem to run about 1 size smaller than their regular jeans. Their regular ones are about the only jeans I can wear with my curvy size as well.
Starr
It takes time to shop for teens. You can go to a store and try everything on and nothing will fit correctly. Be patient and keep trying. I would think she would need petites. Curves often need misses clothing not juniors, just look for youthful styles. I wouldn't try ebay since you can't try them on. Be brave, it can be done. Mrs Mungo
How short are you talking about? My youngest is 5'4.5". Average height for women in the US is 5'4", so I don't consider that to be short. The fact that your average height dd has to buy short sizes to fit her, tells you that clothing companies do not cater to small women in most of the US. You're right. Ebay was just wishfull thinking. We're going to drive to the large Mall in the city this weekend and hopefully find something there. Thanks for the encouragement! Amber in SJ
Old Navy "sweetheart" jeans in petite, fit my 4' 11" curvy 15yo. It is a huge pain and she despises jean shopping. She takes after her momma & we just don't have jeans bodies. Be patient and remind her that it is the fit that matters and not the size number. Be sure to try on a size up or a size down as fit can vary widely. Amber in SJ
Crimson Wife
Curvy meaning plus-sized or just curvy meaning b00ks & booty? If she's petite but curvy, that can be REALLY tricky to find because for whatever reason clothing manufacturers seem to think all women who are petite are beanpoles. Levi's bold curve jeans come in small sizes (down to a 23" waist, not that I personally have one of those these days after 3 kids :tongue_smilie: ). Dd is 1.5 metres tall (thats 4' 11" I think?) By curvy I mean she is filling out (bOOks, hips and booty). Not plus-sized at all, but not a beanpole. It doesn't help that her best friend is nearly 6' and super slim.
Jerico
I've always had to steer clear of junior sections or "teenage" stores (old navy even, also american eagle, etc) and shop in stores for women. The tops are always too short after stretching over my bust. I look for short pants (some stores have them, these are different than the petite section, though hard to find). My mom usually has to hem most of my pants. I've recently started wearing more skirts because I don't really have to worry about the length. Bermuda shorts seem to be fine but capri's look more like short pants. It takes bringing hundreds into the dressing room and only coming out with a small handful. If you find something that fits buy one in every color (LOL.) Good luck!
AngieW in Texas
We went to Kohl's today and my 15yo actually found a brand of shorts there that fit. Rock&Republic actually fit her hips without gapping at the waist like most brands.

Laura Corin
I don't really know WHO ready made clothing is catering to. As a tall person, it's no walk in the park either. I think clothing companies could do better, but really we are all such funny shapes and sizes, it's impossible to fit us all. I'm 5'4" but I have to buy trousers marked 'tall'. I'm just a funny shape, and so are most of us. I do sympathise with the OP though: Calvin is only 5'10" but is waist 28", inside leg 34. Hard to find. I spend a fair bit of time putting elastic into waistbands. L
echoterry
I know I have found Ariya jeans to be my friend in the curvy department. I have to hem them still, but as they are a curvy fit, the back is higher than the front so I don't have to worry about showing my backside constantly. katilac
Sometimes we have luck at the thrift store - particularly for jeans and shorts, but we've found the occasional shirt also. We would probably find more if we were more patient shoppers! Thrift stores have all kinds of brands that aren't just from the current season. For new stuff, recently she's had luck with the house brand at JC Penney's, and Izod button up shirts. It seems to be a crap shoot - she has stuff from juniors, petites, and misses. Oh, if she will wear dresses, that adds another realm of choices.
