DawnM
This is being sold locally on CL. They are asking $800 but say, "No reasonable offer refused." I would LOVE to outfit the office with this and have each kid work on his school work in there!
Cindy in FL.
Sometimes I think my boys would benefit from something like that, too. Then they wouldn't be such a distraction to each other!
DawnM
They could keep all their ind. books on that bookshelf up there, decorate their own little cubical with their own art or any posters they want, they can keep their own pencils and pens and such so they don't argue over who took the last pencil from the pencil bucket. It won't eliminate noise though........sigh.
Cindy in FL.
Well, no. Boy noise requires some serious sound proofing!
poppy
Having worked in a place like that, let me tell you, don't! They'll have plenty of changes for jobs that last YEARS in soul sucking sensory deprivation boxes like that!
DawnM
I am not really going to do it, for one thing, I don't think it will fit! My husband works in a cubical, although much larger than this, and he loves his job and doesn't find it soul sucking. I never worked at a cubical but had a small office and as long as I enjoyed the work itself, I didn't mind it. I would not stay in a job I found soul sucking ever! Now, my kids may tell you they find schoolwork soul sucking! But they have to do it anyway. Dawn Having worked in a place like that, let me tell you, don't! Cindy in FL.
I think they'd be great for short periods of time when they need to really concentrate on the task at hand, but I'd never stick my child in there for hours on end. My boys have to scatter to different areas of the house to get things done sometimes. Even then, no matter where they go, there are more distractions than they, or I, would like. They do look like a serious space commitment, too. It's fun to look at different things, consider the possibilities, take what works, and move on. Sometimes I'll go to TJ Maxx and put stuff in my cart that looks fun/interesting, walk around the store browsing, come to my senses, and put it all back. It's fun while it lasts, though! That's funny. I do that sometimes too! My kids have to scatter around too but we do a lot of our work together so this wouldn't work. I will usually have one of them working on something at the kitchen island and the other one will go with me to my bedroom to do narration, or something like that. Remudamom
If the boys would have fun in their own spaces then just get some big cardboard boxes and cut them to stand like that. Like a presentation or display board. Might cut down on a little distraction and they could have their own space to decorate.
elegantlion
Ah, that makes me claustrophobic looking at it. It would be nice to weed out distractions a bit for myself. But ds would sneak up behind me and we'd still never get work done. I have this thing about working with my back open like that. I have to arrange a desk in the room so I can see the door. I get hyper focused when I work and people even walking up behind me scare the beejabbers out of me.
Night Elf
That is exactly what the cubicles at my college library look like. They were cozy for studying. I felt cut off from everyone else and in my own world.
aug17girl
When I was in graduate school, in a rather small program, each student had their very own assigned cubicle like this in the department's grad student lounge. I loved doing work there, and it was great for storing my horde of library books. The cubicles lined the outside of the room, and there was a table in the centre for group work and socializing.
