momsuz123
So someone as here mentioned Recipe for Reading, and I looked into it. I like what I see so far from the samples. Anyone else use it and able to tell me about it? Is it similar to ETC? Thanks.
alisoncooks
Funny you mentioned this... I'd never heard of it (in many, many phonics searches) until someone mentioned on a recent thread I started. I went ahead and ordered the guide & a couple of workbooks at the level DD appears to be near (we're nearing the end of AAR1 and I ordered workbooks 3 & 4 -- which seem to cover the same material as AAR2). I'd love to hear a bit more about it, too! (I figured I'd be a guinea pig & try it out -- why not, I've tried so much other stuff!)
alisoncooks
Just bumping this thread: I received this teacher's guide & a couple of the workbooks in the mail today. I've read through it but I'm not sure what I'm missing... I'm not sure where the teaching is? Each lesson plan seems to give a few examples of different things, but doesn't tell you what to really do with them or how to approach it. Seeing as how it's a program for struggling readers/dyslexics, I was hoping for a bit more detail. Maybe I've been spoiled by AAR's step-by-step guide, but I can't make heads-nor-tails of this. Maybe after I've had a chance to sit down and more thoroughly read the beginning, I'll understand better. (But I must admit, Dancing Bears is looking more and more appealing...) I have the teacher guide as well and felt the same way. My mom had recommended it because she used it as a resource while teaching reading in special ed. I didn't want to spend so much time figuring out how to teach from it. I did order a couple of their workbooks and used the first one. I like the workbooks. They are similar to ETC.
