GalmiBorn
We may be moving to Idaho this summer and I'm wondering what the laws are like. It would seem to me that it would be very homeschool friendly since its a pretty conservative state. Can someone give me the basics? Thanks
BatmansWife
Idaho is a great state to homeschool in. Years ago I called someone from the Idaho DPI to find out the requirements when we considered moving there. There really aren't any. Google it and you'll see it's very easy to homeschool there. I wish we could have moved to northern Idaho. Lucky you!!
IceFairy
Welcome (soon) to Idaho :-) I am in the Sun Valley area. Laws here are very very lax. You must school kids from age 7-16 and they must be taught generally what is taught in the course of a public education. Thats it. You can check out Homeschool Idaho or HSLDA for exact wording. So, what part of the State are you headed to?
Coco_Clark
I live on the border of Idaho, close enough to have many Idahoees in my homeschool co-ops. The laws are extremely lax, nearly non existent. You have to announce you are homeschooling, and then they pretty much let you be.

GalmiBorn
We are possibly moving to the Nampa/Caldwell area, still unsure. I'm glad to know its so easy and relaxed! We might be a bit nomadic this school year so I don't want to have to deal with multiple state rules and stress of doing it 'right'. Thanks for the help! We just moved to the Nampa/Caldwell area 3 months ago!!! From what I looked up, if your kids have never been to school, there is no paperwork or anything. You can get in trouble if someone can prove educational neglect, but you're pretty much on your own. From what I understand there are a LOT of homeschoolers in the area. I've just been too pregnant sick to try to meet them. There are also good libraries in the area (I'm told) but again, I'm not well enough to leave the house most days. PM if you move to the area!
