gardening momma
We need to remove our above ground pool and deck. Has anyone done this? Did you do it yourself, and how? How did you dispose of it? Did you hire someone? How much did it cost?
Sasharowan
We just took ours apart and replaced it. Our neighbor took all the metal pieces to sell for scrap and DH used a razor knife to cut the lining into managaeable pieces and set it out for garbage. A junker came and got it before the garbageman though.
gardening momma
Does anyone know of a good use for old deck lumber? All I can think of so far (and might do) is to make a kids' play fort (treehouse-type, multi level platforms).
Miss Marple
We sold our above ground pool and deck on Craigslist. The purchaser hired someone to come take down the pool and the deck. We built our own deck (it was huge) and used screws so it was easy to disassemble. The liner was at the end of its life so that was easy to remove and trash. There wasn't a lot to removing it. It took several trailer loads but it was a 4.5 ft x 30 ft round and the deck was about 25 ft x 15 ft with 2 staircases and railing. You might try posting it on Craigslist really cheap or even free - I'm always amazed at what people will buy or take for free :)
KungFuPanda
You could build raised garden beds with the lumber.
gardening momma
You could build raised garden beds with the lumber. [slaps forehead] Why did I not think of that? Is it time to change my board name?
PinkyandtheBrains.
You could build raised garden beds with the lumber. If it's treated lumber you'll want to consider if all the chemicals have leached out already or if they'll leach into your garden beds. Only an issue if you plan to grow vegetables. Flowers won't care :)
gardening momma
This deck is so old it's unsafe to let anyone but us walk on (we know what to look for--you're not going to fall through, but you could trip). We haven't maintained it (staining each year) in the 7 years we've lived here, so I think it should be safe for vegetable gardening.
