LillianinAL
My ds will be in 10th next year. He has done Apologia General Science, Physical Science, and Biology and has done well with all three courses. However he slowed down in math, taking three years to get through pre-Algebra and Algebra. I don't think he's ready for Chemistry. Maybe in a year after he matures more and is taking Algebra 2. So I would like for him to do Science next year in 10th. What science courses would be good options to give him a good year? Thanks, Lillian
Miss Marple
I'd suggest a Conceptual Physics course. I used Hewitt's Conceptual Physics the High School Physics Program. There are other conceptual physics courses that others have recommended here which would be worth a look. Conceptual Physics was one of my top favorite programs :)
PeterPan
You might look at the Georgia PBS chemistry course. The entire thing is online for free. I printed off all the pages for my dd but didn't really look at them. I doubt there's a ton of math. Someone else here on the boards described it as "chemistry in diapers"... I'm guessing he'd be fine with the math. Since you can see all the materials upfront, you can decide for yourself.
AngieW in Texas
Conceptual Physics or Conceptual Chemistry should work. I have been teaching a Conceptual Physics class this year to my dd and one other student. Algebra I can be taken concurrently. The math is very light. TheApprentice
Derek Owens offers distant learning classes. My son finished Physics this year. It is Algebra 1 based, not calculus based, and it worked well for him.
SailorMom
All of the above :) Also - was there anything that really intrigued him in his other science classes? Perhaps you could delve deeper into a subject he was particularly interested in....
Mom22ns
I'd consider his interest and see if he can pick a science. Ds will be doing Forensic Science next year to stall a year before he is ready for Physics. There are many other sciences, that can work for high school. Marine Biology or Advanced Biology would work if you like Apologia. Earth Science, Astronomy, Conceptual Physics... or check this thread. Mom2boys
We were in the same boat last fall, and chose AP Environmental Science through PA Homeschoolers. Ds really enjoyed the class, and there was very little math - nothing he couldn't handle.
