Luanne
Which do you prefer, cats or dogs? I personally like both... pretty much equally.
Dandelion
I like both. I used to consider myself a total dog person, but then we got cats and I found I really enjoy cats too. We now have one dog and two cats, and I love them all equally. :)
Luanne
I like both. I used to consider myself a total dog person, but then we got cats and I found I really enjoy cats too. We now have one dog and two cats, and I love them all equally. :) I was the same way. We only had dogs growing up. Then as an adult I owned one cat. My parents owned a cat for a while and I became very attached to Patches. My brother in Utah owns a cat and I love it.
gingersmom
I have had dogs/cats (at same time) for the past 20+ years. I love my two cats dearly but they will be my last two. I think in the future I may have two dogs. One of my kids will have a cat (s) and one is a dog only person.
Jilly
I always thought that I was a cat person until I got a dog three years ago. Now I see myself as more of a dog person. I still have two cats, and I love them dearly, but I feel closer to my dog.
KungFuPanda
I put dogs. I don't dislike cats, I just don't think of them as a contributing member of the family. Nobody ever thought twice about breaking in because they saw a cat at the window. Unless you have a mouse problem, a cat is just a step up from a houseplant. AngieW in Texas
I am actually more of a cat person than a dog person. But my dh and my 17yo are both allergic to cats, so I have to get my kitty-fix from neighborhood cats. I love dogs too, but I love cats a little more. If I could, I would have one dog and two cats. As it is, we have one dog. She would actually do fine with cats. She really wants one of the neighborhood cats to play with her and she has successfully gotten several cats to come up to her and touch noses, but as soon as they do that, her tail starts wagging and the cats get scared and run away. Catwoman
I know I should pick cats, what with being Catwoman and all, but I actually like both cats and dogs. If Mr. Cat (see avatar photo) reads this, he will kill me as I sleep.

Pawz4me
Two dog and two cats share our household. So . . . both. Although I suspect, if nature works the way it usually does, we'll eventually work our way down to just one dog and stick with that for awhile. Vet costs are high, plus we plan on traveling more in the future. One small dog is pretty easy to take along. If I live long enough to become an old lady, I can envision having a calm kitty companion in my twilight years.
dirty ethel rackham
I like both - had a cat when I was little and have a dog now. But, I have become very allergic to cats so I can only handle limited exposure. I absolutely love dogs. I volunteer at a shelter with them. Stacia
I love both, but ultimately, I'm a cat person (& we have only cats in our house).
UmMusa
We just adopted our first kitten today! I hope I'm a cat person :D
AlmiraGulch
I've always had cats and I love them, but I love the dog I have now, too, and actually dote on him much more than I do my cats. Still, I voted for cats.
BarbecueMom
I've never owned a dog, only cats. I'm not really a fan of dogs, and given the outrageous things I catch my cats doing, I'm not always fond of them either.
catz
We just adopted our first kitten today! I hope I'm a cat person :D Awww ... don't you know pet adoption requires the posting of pictures!? I will have to pick cat, although we have many friends with dogs that we absolutely love too. Some friends just got 2 puppies and we adore them! We're a 2 cat house right now, and just due to lifestyle, regular travel will likely never have a dog. Audrey
It kind of depends on the creature itself. They all have unique personalities whether dog or cat. I love the playfulness and loyalty of a good dog, but I also love the serenity and independence of a good cat. I think I am lucky, because I have loved all the dogs and all the cats with whom I've ever had the pleasure to live. It is unlikely, though, that we will ever have another dog. After the last one passed, when I had suggested it might be time to look for another dog, it was tantamount to running a knife through my poor dh's heart. We could no more replace that dog than we could replace our kid. On the other hand, my dh seems to be a bit of a magnet for wretched little kittens. Periodically, he will find a half-dead kitten somewhere, bring it home and resurrect it. My son jokingly calls him Cat-Jesus.

AngieW in Texas
It was very traumatic for us when Goldie died last August. I was more attached to her than any other dog we've ever had. There was no way I could imagine having another golden after her. I'm really happy with the German shepherd we have now. I never would have looked at Kylie at the shelter if I'd known she was German shepherd because I wanted a cuddly dog who was really good with kids and other dogs. She isn't super cuddly, but she is great with kids and other dogs. She is extremely social, not aloof at all. When we did puppy class, the teachers really wanted me to put Kylie in the therapy dog classes.
Jeannie in NJ
I like dogs but loove cats and only have cats as they are so much easier to take care of. When dh and I first got married (22 years ago), he got me a kitten that I just loved but she did not survive her spaying operation (I know almost unheard of) and our house was just too quiet so he got me 2 kittens. We then started our human family by adopting 2 babies, 2 years apart and over the years have added on to our cat family and now have 8 cats each with a def. unique personality. nmoira
We have three cats and a dog, but I'm a cat person through and through. Can't imagine a world without cats. There's something a bit desperate and needy about dogs.
