LizzyBee
This is something I've never seen another kid do, even though there are some all-boy boys (and girls) in my extended family. My youngest dd, age 7, climbs door frames. She braces her hands and feet on the door jambs and then climbs all the way to the top and back down. Sometimes, she kind of turns sideways and wedges herself so that she's half-sitting, half-lying in the doorway. So who else's kids do this? My kid can't be the only one. :001_smile:
tibbyl
I did this, and I have witnessed all my children doing it. It is lots of fun and relatively safe as far as climbing scenarios go.
nakitty
yep...I did it as a child and I have taught the spidy skill to my children as well... also climb hallways....and pretty much anything else that is stationary and can hold their weight.
Jennifer in MI
Yes. My 7 (nearly 8) yo boy does this. My dd2 seems to be following in his footsteps. I just had to tell her to stop climbing the fridge!!
Mom2legomaniacs
I used to do that all the time! Mine, thus far, haven't thought of that or they would.
milovany
YES, several of our kids do this in several of our door frames. They find it great fun. I could post pictures! Lol.
~Tara~
Yep yep All of mine do to some extent...but the 9 yr old is the expert. I'm going to have to rename him on my blog "Tree Frog" :p He's also the one who jumps off the balcony ;) My 2 yr old..well, he sure TRIES to climb the doorframes, but as you can imagine, his wee little legs and arms don't help him much. teehee But it's sure fun to watch. :D
Peek a Boo
oh gosh yes!! Mine all do [or try] this! I have pics of my 2d ds in his spiderman costume hanging from the top of the doorframe. In fact, he has figured out how to scale the stairway via the walls w/o touching the stairs  i just count it as PE ;) and here ya go --i added a couple pics from 2003 :D

We used to shimming up the building and get to the top and jump from one building to another...until we got caught. Now as a Mom, I would never let my son do this. LizzyBee
Thanks, ladies. I feel better knowing it's not so unusual. All of my kids climb lots of other things, but the youngest is the only one that does door frames. Of course, she's also the child of whom I wrote in a Christmas letter a few years ago, "Katie is not walking yet. She runs, hops, skips, climbs, and jumps, but she never just walks."

TXMomof4
Yup, my 8 yo does this. Makes me crazy! We'll be standing in the hallway having a conversation and I turn around to find I'm looking at her belly. Plus, she goes barefoot all the time and her feet leave nasty brown marks all over everything!
kat19
I did this when I was younger and now my dd 11 does this :001_smile:
Remudamom
Our two youngest boys do that. They spidey on just one side and also put hands on one side and feet on the other.
Starr
We have family friends who so that. I admit it was a shock the first time they were climbing my walls!
Mommy22alyns
If my girls had half a chance, they'd be doing that! Especially Becca... she never "walked" either, she just took off running and hasn't stopped since!
Connie1961
My son use to do this when he was young also. Now he is so much taller (and older), it wouldn't be much of a climb before he made it to the top!!!
Harriet Vane
Both my kids can climb both doorways and hallways. My dd is tall and she has actually, also, figured out a way to climb the large opening leading into our living room. This is what usually REALLY impresses people, because the opening is quite large and dd has to practically do the splits to climb it. RobotGirl
I did that! I also was climbing trees like mad:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Rose in BC
Of course at his age I threaten him with "now that you've run your dirty feet all over my walls, you'll have to wash them".:001_smile: (The walls that is.)
Sasharowan
My dd8 does this. Her dad showed her how. Although her legs aren't quite long enough to do the sideways with the back on one side climb.
Mandy in TN
yep, all 3 of my boys have done this. Mandy

GailV
This is exactly how my 8yo has spent her summer -- climbing up the door frame right next to my computer desk. I took pictures the other day and was planning a blog post about it.

phathui5
My seven year old does it all the time. I have a picture of him doing it in a Spiderman costume when he was four or five.
Suzanne in ABQ
Oh, that's my boy! Put him in a Spiderman costume, and the kids becomes a climbing fiend! Two years ago, we were visiting my IL's during Halloween season. I had to keep pulling him down from the doorways, and off the banister, because I was totally stressed thinking that his grandfather would catch him! I have great pictures, but I don't know how to post them here. :glare:
Ferdie
Yes, my children taught the neighbor kid how to climb door jams and the Mom wasn't too happy. But her ds taught my kids how to slide down the banister so I guess we are even.
Sweetpeach
Absolutely -- they just figured out how it works this winter -- I thought maybe too much math and they decided to climb the door, as an escape. T
