TheApprentice
Do colleges mind this? I was told today that most colleges don't want to see 0.5 credit on the transcript. For example health and government were done in a semester each. Why wouldn't I put 0.5 credit on the transcript? What's been your experience? Has this ever been said to you? In The Great White North
I never heard that. Most students will have 1/2 credits for such mandatory classes as health, PE, US Govt, computers, etc. Our local high school has most of their English courses designated by topic (ie Shakespeare) and are one semester courses so they are all 1/3 credit courses. Colleges definitely want to see those!
Mnemosyne
Never heard that, either. My public high school used half credits on our transcripts, wasn't an issue.
Lori D.
Do colleges mind this? I was told today that most colleges don't want to see 0.5 credit on the transcript. For example health and government were done in a semester each. Why wouldn't I put 0.5 credit on the transcript? What's been your experience? Has this ever been said to you? Hmmm... Not ever been my personal experience, nor have I ever seen this concern brought up by anyone on this board -- and people here have applied to a wide variety of colleges and universities. Also, I think that is a bit unrealistic; as Great White North pointed out, many standard high school courses ARE only 0.5 (or one semester) courses. In fact, many schools still offer 0.25 classes (9 week classes -- usually as electives). I can't imagine colleges expecting public schools to change their standard courses to all only 1.0 credit courses... Perhaps the issue is that it makes it difficult for colleges to count up credits and see the total for each subject area when it is listed by grade/year? Or colleges don't want to see a 1.0 credit spread out over more than one school year? Perhaps tailoring the transcript by subject might make it easier for the admissions office to see the total credits for different subjects and take care of any concern?? TheApprentice
Yeah, I hadn't heard/read that it was a concern before either, but she was my umbrella reviewer and that is what she said. Anyway, I'll just carry on as I'd planned. :001_smile:
Brenda in MA
I've never heard of an issue with 0.5 credit courses on a high school transcript. My ds had several, and it was never mentioned as an issue. Brenda
AngieW in Texas
I've never seen anybody mention it as an issue anywhere. It definitely wasn't an issue for my two older girls. I made their transcripts by semester, so everything was listed by the 0.5 credit.
QueenCat
Only for classes that are typically 1 credit.
