I am seriously upset right now, dd6 just got home and she broke her glasses playing dodgeball at school. They are not repairable period :crying: I paid for these 6 weeks ago, complete with Transitions lenses since she medically needs them. It was a major thing for us to pay to get her a new prescription. We have no insurance to cover them and I can't afford to replace them. She just started public school about 5 weeks ago and I had no idea they would be playing dodge ball, it was banned years ago at all the local schools were we used to live (just moved across the country 6 weeks ago). ARGH!!!!!!!!!! Can I cry now?

I'm so sorry. What terrible luck.

On the other hand, the glasses probably saved your dd from an eye injury, which would have been a much bigger problem.

(Just trying to find a bright side for you. :))

Have you tried calling the place that sold them to you? They might replace them for you. Isn't there some kind of warranty on them?

It's worth a try!

Is there a warranty for broken frames? Most places have a warranty of some kind for children's glasses. It doesn't hurt to ask the place where you bought them. Are the lenses okay? Do you just need a new frame?

Where did you get the glasses? Many places have special warranties for kids. Sadly, kids break glasses. My son has broken 4 pairs of glasses since he got them. I specifically go to a kid's specialty place now because their warranty is the best. He's had 2 pairs replaced under warranty free of charge. I'd definitely check in with where you bought them. Otherwise zenni may be a good option.

My daughter has had her glasses for 9 months and not broken them at all. I'm doing a happy dance! Seriously! I wouldn't necessarily blame the dodge ball (although I hated that game as a kid). My kid has broken glasses doing all kinds of crazy things. My DH had glasses as a kid and broke them constantly. He's actually impressed our kids haven't broken them more.

My son has broken his glasses on 4 different occasions. There is a 1 year warranty though so the replacements (2) and repaired parts (2) cost us nothing. I think that's very common with kids glasses. I so hope you find out they were under warranty!

No warrenty since we used her old frames (they are cute and we couldn't afford frames too) and put in new lenses which was $$$ for us. I'm going to take her to walmart tomorrow and see what we can do, they said they might be able to fit the lenses into a new frame or see if her bent pair can be repaired and pop the new lenses in. (she had 2 pairs of the same frame)

Do you have an eyeglass repair shop anywhere near you? We have an independent one that doesn't sell glasses or exams. They've done some amazing things. They once removed the earpiece of my frame and welded on new hardware to make a repair. They did it while I waited and it was inexpensive. It's worth a look.

Definitely talk to the eyeglasses place and the school. The store may be able to put the lenses in a different set of frames.

Personally? I would *not* order glasses with progressive lenses needed for medical reasons from zenni. I order backup glasses for my dds from zenni, but one is nearsighted and the other has astigmatism. They have fairly simple prescriptions.

I don't have anything against Zenni, but if you compare everything with Walmart, the price is nearly the same while the warranty isn't. Ask me how I know. My dd lost her glasses a few weeks ago and we had to buy new ones. I searched all over, even at Zenni, and WM had the best price with the best warranty including Transitions. Ours were $127. I know that seems like a lot, but for new frames, her (on the high side requiring extra charges) prescription, aspheric cut, and Transitions, it is way more reasonable than anywhere else.

You may be able to find a cheaper same/similar frame on Zenni, you can also check eBay or just Google the style number. Last year, dd found a pair of frames she wanted that were $220 (ACK), I took the number off of them at the optical shop and found them online for $45.
