EmilyGF
Hi all, I want to get a black-and-white ereader to use mainly on books that are available for free. Which one should I get? If you have a light on yours, do you use it a lot? Have you had any memory problems (running out) - should I get a large amount of memory? Thanks, Emily
three4me
I love my Kindle touch (I think they have paperwhites now)! No memory issues, although it's very easy to archive books and download them again when you need them.
MeaganS
I have they kindle paperwhite and used to have the keyboard. I loved them both, but the built in light in the paperwhite makes it my favorite. Memory hasn't been an issue at all and I've had hundreds of books on it. I recommend the Paperwhite to anyone who asks about it
SunnyDays
I have the Kindle touch and love it. Amazon has a great selection of free and cheap books. I might upgrade to a paper white with a light down the road, but for now, this meets my needs quite well.
shawthorne44
I would get one of the paperwhites. I would also not get a Kindle if you are looking for free books. I know that the library downloads work with less problems if it isn't the Kindle format. I personally like the light to be from a little clip-on. I find it more restful. Others probably prefer the opposite.
dm379
I have the nook glowlight and love it. I can download books from the library with no problem. The ones off the Barnes and Noble site aren't really worth the time (imo of course) but between the library and other free sites I have enough to last a lifetime. I have had memory problems but that's only because I went overboard and downloaded a ton of free stuff at once. I think it was over 130 pages. But I love how it is light, durable and the battery lasts forever.
Dahliarw
Kindle (paperwhite would be my vote). I have over 130 free books on my kindle waiting to be read. I also have had no issues with library books in kindle format. Nook may go away (Microsoft might buy it, which is enough to have me running in the other direction). NittanyJen
I absolutely love my Nook with the Glowlight. The battery seems to last forever, even with heavy reading. I have a ton of books and no memory problems yet. It does work well with the library system. The status of the Nook vis a vis Barnes and Noble is a bit concerning. I have used my friend's Kindle and have 3 generations of Nooks, and the Nook has always been my hands-down favorite, and I definitely do not want to see it go away. Pawz4me
I'm a Kindle fan. I've got a second generation that still works and a $69 current version that I use in a lighted leather cover. I rarely keep more than a couple of hundred books on mine, but I know people who keep well over 1,000 and have no memory problems. I have an aunt who loves her Nook, and I'm sure they're fine e-readers. I just prefer using Amazon, and like others have mentioned I'd be a bit leery of what may happen with Nook/Microsoft. Personally, I don't see any reason to consider a Kobo or any of the other lesser known brands.
melmichigan
My kids got Kobo's for Christmas (2011), we returned them within 30 days and bought them Kindles instead. Things may have changed but the interface was awful, I couldn't download a book to just one of the ereaders on the same account, customer service was awful. I just bought my third Kindle last week when I noticed that the Keyboard version only had two left in stock. I prefer the Keyboard, and Kindle specifically because I read about 300-400 pages as day and I have problems with backlit screens. My kids all have the $69 Kindles, they are easy on their eyes and we can control the wifi. Most libraries now include Kindle, even in my little town. I like that all the kids Kindles are on one account, so I buy a book once and can download it to others. As for memory, I archive books as soon as they are read. It makes it much easier to manage my library.

Lizzie in Ma
I had an original 3G Nook and I liked it ok until I got my Kindle Keyboard. It is my very favorite gadget ever. Still going strong after 3 years or more. I have about 500 books on it and it still has room. If it ever dies on me, I will go with the paperwhite.
