unfrumpable.
So history buffs, what do you make of these books? The biographical ones, that is. I bought a few of them, but have only read Leif the Lucky, which I wasn't thrilled with. That had more to do with the way the story was written than the history it contained because I'm only passingly familiar with Leif's history. So tell me, the good, the bad, and the ugly. :) Thanks! HRAAB
I have Pocahontas, Abraham Lincoln, Leif the Lucky and Benjamin Franklin. Our family has liked them, and I know they liked the illustrations. We used them around 2nd/3rd grade. My favorite books by the d'Aulaires are the Greek and Norse myths. Those have been re-read several times. We've also used them for narrations. No bad or ugly that I remember.
Rebecca VA
You might enjoy reading the hundreds and hundreds of reviews for the different books over at Amazon. I personally don't have an opinion about the books' accuracy, but I do love the vivid illustrations. They stay with the reader almost longer than the words do. kristinannie
Leif the Lucky is the worst one by far. Christopher Columbus was excellent. My kids especially loved Pocahontas. We are currently reading Ben Franklin. It is also really good. By the way, I read a couple of paragraphs and have my kids narrate. We end up reading about two pages per day FWIW. unfrumpable.
Thanks! With all the other history threads going on, I was just wondering how historically accurate these books are. We read Leif all the way through in one sitting and were both dozing off. lol
