Alicia64
My boys are ten. I'm not wanting to do the computer class part of Brave Writer. What do I need to buy? It looks confusing to me with silver, gold and platinum options. I can't figure out what we need. Thanks, Alley
TraceyS/FL
It is still on sale at HSBC, so I would start there! :D https://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/brave-writer/?c=
ByGrace3
For my rising third grader I bought The Writers Jungle (for me, it explains the BW idea), and several back issues of the Arrow from HSBC. For my rising first grader, I got Jot it Down.

But I'm still hoping someone will tell me exactly what I need to buy for two kids who are currently in 4th grade, will school all summer and be in 5th in Sept. And, thanks Tracey, for the awesome tip on where to get a discount!!! Love WTM Forums! Alley

The thing with BW is it is a lifestyle more than just a curriculum. The curriculum they have is to help you in the BW lifestyle. The Arrow is for grades 3-6. We are new to BW so I am sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in. :)

I chose issues of The Arrow that were books I wanted us to read this year anyway. I also ordered through Homeschool Buyer's Coop to take advantage of the discount. Farrar
If you're going to do the online course, I would just start by doing that. I've heard they're great, but I don't have personal experience with them.
Syllieann
The writers jungle is all you really need. Jot it down, the wand, the arrow, and the boomerang are supplemental. They basically are open and go versions of some of the ideas in the writers jungle. Using twj is sort of like using the wwe instructor text and choosing your own passages while the other portions are more like the wwe workbooks. Jot it down could be called the composition portion for 5-8 yos. there is not yet a hand holding comp version available for your kids' age but iirc it is in the works. The wand, arrow, and boomerang are copywork, dictation, literature, and some writing exercises. If you get the arrow you still need twj for the other portions as well as the whole philosophy. I would start by getting twj and reading it. Then, look at the arrow sample and see if you think you want to purchase the ready to go package or DIY with your own selections, using the methods outlined in twj. All the packages on the bw site are more expensive than piecing it together on HSBC. You can download the ebook from HSBC for around $40 and if you want a year of arrow, you can subscribe for a yr through HSBC for another $40 ish. In summary, you need twj, and if you want the arrow, it would just be supplemental in that the legwork is done for you.

One more question: can you give me some titles of books that she has the kids/moms read? Thank you again! Alley
