jillian
How do you schedule use it? We have Caesar's English, Music of the Hemispheres, Practice Island and Grammar Town. We did a pretty intense year this year in grammar and dd grasped it all but haven't done much poetry, so that's why we have some of both levels. I am just wondering how you schedule it. We also have the teacher manuals for most of the books because it was cheaper.
Chrysalis Academy
I typically do the Grammar book for the level I'm working on first, straight through, then begin a loop through the vocab/writing/practice books, once a week each, then do the whole poetry book at the end of the year, in the spring, when we are all burned out on book larnin' and just want to be outdoors. If I were making a plan using the books you've got, though, I think I might do it a little differently - I think I would do CE once a week (this will take you 20 weeks to get through @ 1x per week) and on the other days go through Practice Island, 4-5 sentences a day, till you are done. Then I'd go Music of the Hemispheres, and read poetry along with it, for 2-3 weeks. Then I'd do Grammar Town. That, along with writing & lit, would be a decent year of language arts. Lisa in the UP of MI
We are doing the Island level this year. MCT suggests starting with the Grammar book, then after the parts of speech section start the vocabulary book. After the grammar book is done start both the practice and writing books. When the writing book is done start the poetry book. We did grammar 4X a week until we started the vocabulary book. Then we did vocab on M and Grammar TWTh. Writing (and then poetry) took the place of the grammar book. The practice book is done 4X a week.
jillian
DD definitely can identify all basic parts of speech (noun, verb, pronoun, preposition, adverb, adjective, conjunction, etc). We are starting cursive this year as well. Also doing middle ages literature.
Lisa in the UP of MI
Did she do any MCT yet? If she doesn't know parts of sentence, phrases, and clauses she'll need to start with the grammar book.
