Scientific Investigations with my 12 and 9 year old

I'm writing up my annual investigations with my kids on the general education board. I like to write as we go so that people can see the process and how messy it is, rather than just seeing the outcome all tidied up at the end. The older is designing a mathematical model to improve the timing of the lights in the city and then calculating how much pollution he would save on an annual basis. The younger is studying how to make paints using only medieval technology including the best techniques for pigments, binders, and colours. The projects are picking up speed and finally moving along.
