northcoast
My son is 14 and so far has self taught out of the 6th edition book. I haven't kept up with him. How long should I give him to complete chapter tests which have 25 - 30 problems? I want him to have practice taking tests which we haven't done much of yet. He just worked the chapter problems during the school year and some Jacob's Geometry too. Thanks!
HSDCY
We used the 8th ed. which has tests ranges from 15-30 problems. Ds never needed more than an hour to finish one test. If the 6th and 8th ed. are similar, then I wouldn't give more than 3 minutes for each problem. For good math students 2 minutes for each problem should be enough, IMO. Jann in TX
Most of my students complete the tests in less than 1 hour (with around 50 minutes being average). A few of my slower students take 1.5 hours (these are detail oriented students that cannot be rushed!). If a student takes longer than 1.5 hours then I would be concerned they have not mastered the material... I always assign ALL of the chapter review problems -- if students do well on chapter review then they will do well on the test... if they struggle they need a tutorial before the test and probably MORE problems to work out. northcoast
Thank you! It is taking him 1 1/2 hrs but it's also material he just quickly reviewed not having worked on a lot since last fall. I like the idea of assigning the review material. It beats my good intentions of relearning this stuff and keeping up with him. :)
