Some LL & WttW questions for 8th? IEW/EIW?

Recommended Posts

My rising 8th grader used LL7 this year......she wants to continue with LL8 for 8th grade. Will this prepare her for Windows to the World? And if so, would this be the next progression to 9th grade lit? We don't use IEW for writing, though I'm considering if for high school. Would she need to have completed or use IEW in order to use WttW in 9th? I'm still debating on using IEW for 8th grade to prepare for high school writing. Right now the plan is to continue with Essentials in Writing for 8th...... Anyone use Essentials in Writing for high school and seeing great results in comparison to IEW? Helpful tips and advice appreciated!

I've never used LL, but I did teach WttW to high school students this year. Students need to know how to write essays before taking the class. They'll learn how to write literary analysis essays in the class, but they need to already know how to write basic essays beforehand.

It would be nice if she had an IEW class before taking WttW, but it's not absolutely necessary.

In the IEW catalog where it shows the Pathway, it has her starting at TWSID-B or Theme book. She is a pretty strong writer and has never had any trouble in that area. Would TWSID-B or just SID-B be a good fit or starting point. It shows taking The Elegant Essay in 9th with Speech Boot Camp...we may not do the speech boot camp. Could you tell me if SID-B takes a stronger writing student a complete school year to complete or are they usually finished early. If so, she could just move on into The Elegant Essay before 9th grade after SID-B so I know she will be ready for WttW. This year she finished Essentials in Writing early and she then began WWS1...she is on Week 6 and will work through it for the summer. I just want to try to line a few subjects up for 8-9th so we can see some progression and I want to try to stick with the same publisher for certain subjects instead of jumping around in high school. Thank you for helping!
