SKL
The first grade handwriting lessons are done in cursive now. My kids still have pretty awful manuscript writing - in fact, Miss E still writes her Zs backwards, LOL. Is this the new norm? I didn't start cursive until late in 2nd grade. wapiti
Your girls are lucky!!! (1) to learn cursive younger and (2) to learn it at all. Cursive can be great for kids with handwriting issues. I hope they make them use it once it's learned. And, try writing a z backwards in cursive :)
Freckles
1st grade. My youngest dd has beautiful cursive. I love that she learned so young.
qtkimi
Public schools here do not teach cursive at all. I was taught in 3rd grade. My soon to be 14 year old can't read or write cursive really a shame.
trying my best
My ds7 in public school finishing 1at grade. No cursive yet. School starts in 3rd grade. But I taught him cursive the summer after he finished Kindergarten. His cursive is amazing. My dd4 will start Kindergarten this fall and she asked to lean cursive now. She has very pretty cursive. And she is 4.
jennynd
My DD's PreK had my DD learn cursive. She is 5 My DS didn't learn it until 2nd grade
Kathleen.
Our cursive starts middle or end of second grade. My first grader has been dying to learn cursive and will occasionally write her name in cursive on her school papers. There's always a note near it saying please print. Ugh. I told her we'd do it this summer. My third grader does cursive, but it's not required outside of Handwriting.
Library Momma
I learned in 3rd grade. In my kids' school they start learning at the beginning of 3rd grade. By January all assignments (that are not printed on the computer) must be in cursive.
Giraffe
Cursive starts in K here.
Arcadia
My kids zoned school has long drop cursive. Whatever is not on state testing is not taught :( The virtual academy they are with supplies HWOT cursive for 3rd grade. My 3rd grader likes the beauty of cursive but does his homework in script. His teacher does not complain if he submits his work in cursive.
slackermom
Whatever is not on state testing is not taught Same here. At the end of 2nd grade my daughter's teacher did give the kids some cursive printouts to work on over the summer, if they felt like learning it, but that was the full extent of it. kiwik
I learnt cursive using a cartridge ink pen at about 8. I very really use it because most people can't read it but it is faster than printing.
SonshineLearner
Cursive starts in K here. Do you happen to live in France? :)
Giraffe
Turkey. But we were occupied by the French for a while and every now and then I find commonalities. Perhaps this is one?
Roadrunner
Currently it is taught in 3rd grade. Our school is thinking about dropping cursive.
Southern Ivy
At my mom's private school, they start in Kinder. In the public school where I teach, cursive is non-existent. I wish it was offered. These kiddos have horrid handwriting.
mom2lydia
We just finished 2nd grade and that's going to be part of our summer learning per dd request
nd293
In the children's Montessori school they start with cursive. All their work material is in cursive. I understand that starting with cursive it helps reduce problems with letter reversal. I never taught dd cursive when we were homeschooling, and they just gave up when she started Montessori in Year 6, as her cursive was appaling and her print was only terrible  .
