PrairieSong
I feel just awful. I was going outside for some fresh air after dark. I was going down the front steps in the dark...there are only a couple, but my bare foot touched our furry cat whom I had not seen! I was already going forward with my weight and could NOT go back. I said, "CAT!" trying to catch myself at the last second, and thinking surely she would run out of the way. She didn't! I stepped right on the middle of her back and I feel so bad! I could not stop myself. She ran off and I tried to find her, calling after her, "I'm sorry!" She didn't even make a sound, but she is a very quiet cat and will meow very softly when she's hungry, wants in, etc. I used Google and THAT was a MISTAKE because there was a story of someone who stepped on her cat and hurt her very badly, and had to put her to sleep. Ugh. I am feeling ill. Going to look for the cat again, and then off to bed soon.
Lawana
Our 10 yo adult cat adopted the habit of sleeping on the stairs of our split foyer home when we adopted a stray kitten. One day I stepped on him with my full weight while carrying a laundry basket that obstructed my view. He scratched me, but did not otherwise seem worse for the wear. I hope everything works put okay. Thanks for sharing that! I so hope she is okay. I didn't step on her with my FULL weight but I couldn't completely stop myself as I was already going down the step. MomtoCandJ
I just stepped on my 12 yo cat coming out of the bathroom. She's all good but my little toe is a different story.

I hope your toe is okay! Our cat just came in the back door when I called. She let me pick her up and was even purring, so hopefully that is a sign she is all right. Reflections
When our 14 year old cat, Lizzy, was 3 she tried to slip out of the garage but running under the door as it was closing. She ducked under the motion beam and got stuck under the door! I panicked and hit the button again thinking that it would go up but no, it went down instead, pinning her to ground even harder. I panicked more and hit the button again and it stopped going down but didn't go up either. I was so panicked (and I had never owned an automatic garage door before) I ran over and tried to push it up off of her. No use. The whole time I'm screaming my head off and no one can hear me. In the meantime, Lizzy peed - which of course drove me even further over the edge - so I ran to the door of the house and screamed till my dh came out and very calmly walked over and pulled the emergency red cord and the door just popped right up. Long story short, I rushed her to the Vet ER at 1 AM where they looked at her, xray'd her and sent us home with pain meds. That's not the only "horrible and traumatic" thing she has survived. I'd keep her in a box for her own safety, but PETA frowns on that sort of thing....

MomtoCandJ
My toe is ok, a couple of scratches from Bob (cat). It looked a lot worse earlier.
Melissa in Australia
we step on our cat constantly. It has something wrong with it and has a wobbly head. as it wobbles so much it cannot walk straight and walks under our feet. the more it concentrates the more its head wobbles. You should see the crazy thing trying to climb a tree. It gets half way up, gets the wobbles and falls out of the tree.
clarkacademy
our cats have been stepped on too. I think they make it a mission to get under my feet when I walk! It happens don't feel bad. You did nothing on purpose.
Mimm
I've stepped on my chihuahua a few times and he's definitely smaller than a cat. I always feel bad but he's never been injured enough to even limp. He's pretty good about keeping out of people's way (good skill to have when you weigh 7 lbs.) Anyway, hope your kitty is ok. jenn-
I'm glad it seems your cat will be okay. Mine likes to be kicked. I know this because he plays the game of "run ahead of the human and flop down right in their path" on a regular basis.
PrairieSong
This morning our kitty was coughing and hacking and I thought, "OH NO! I hurt her lungs when I stepped on her!" But then she hacked up a couple pieces of grass onto the dining room floor and proceeded to eat her cat food. She let me hold her and was purring, so she seems ok. Jeannie in NJ
our smallest cat will lie flat on her back with her stomach up on the middle stair and NOT move for anyone. We have to step over her
