Blue Hen
Murray State University or University of Kentucky? Both schools have the athletic team DS wants but I'm not too familiar with either one--other than their basketball team. :) DS is exploring business--accounting or finance---he is a good 'B' student but not a great student. Love to hear from folks who either have a student there or is an alumni. Also, if your student applied to either school, how was the process. Thanks! Caroline
I have a friend whose son played soccer for Kentucky. PM me if his experience interests you. I don't want to put it out here in public.
Barbara H
If he's interested in both he should apply to both. As the state flagship, UK is a stronger school - better reputation, more course offerings, more opportunities. It is also bigger and can be more of a social adjustment for some students.UK's stats have been going up every year so he may want to think about taking the ACT or SAT more than once to make sure he's where he wants to be for admissions. He may want to look at the Living Learning Communities - which offer some interest based activities tied with housing - this may help him find peers more easily. I think you'll find both schools homeschool friendly. UK has made a good effort to recruit homeschoolers and has a day long homeschool admissions event each summer where homeschoolers can hear speakers from various campus organizations, residential life, financial aid, etc. and that's a good place to start. I live in Lexington - feel free to send me a message and I can help you connect with more information about that event.

Yes, he'll be applying to both schools plus a few other schools that have his sport. I'll make sure we explore their Living Learning Communities when we visit next month. On a side note---If you could, please suggest a place the college students like to eat at, lunch or dinner.
Barbara H
At UK for dinner if you want a local tradition with a real campus feel I suggest Joe Bologna's For lunch there are options around campus, a few on Avenue of Champions and many more on Limestone. You'll find the standard chains like Chipolte and some local places like King Tut's. Even better though, I'd suggest eating on campus. The student center is - typical food court - not great. My favorite place to eat on campus is Ovid's in the bottom floor of the Young Library. It'll be hopping at lunch but all the better to eavesdrop on students and get a feel for the place. That will work well for us. We'll be arriving into town in time for dinner. For lunch we usually eat on campus at one of the eaterys if not the student caft. Thanks!
