Luvingmy4boys
I am loving the samples of this series. Has anyone used these? What did or didn't you like about it? Is their Journal really necessary for a 5 and 6 yr old? If I get it, I was thinking of having them do oral narrations and maybe draw a picture about the topic we discussed. Just not sure if the journal is too much for this early age.

Guest
When we did it (for a few weeks), the journals weren't even out yet, so I definitely don't think they're necessary! I thought we would love it, but it fizzled here. We read through the part about Columbus and then I read the D'Aulaire Columbus book afterward, and it felt like we were reading the exact same thing. We decided to ditch the book and read some D'Aulaire biographies instead. Sorry I don't have more positive things to say about it!
reachup
I have purchased Vol 1 and the journal for next yr. My dc with be in 4th, 1st & K. I have read through most of it and really like it. I have to agree with the above post about adding the D'Aulaire books. After reading though Vol.1 I decided not to add in these books. I have added other books to read aloud and my 4th grader to read on her own.I also added picture book for the other 2. We are going to be doing a state study once a wk and some lapbooks here and there throughout the yr. I own the Liberty kids DVD's so I have scheduled those in also. If you are interested pm me and I can send you what I have done with Lesson plans so far. It is still a work in progress but your welcome to see it.
