happyWImom
Okay, I am really going to try to stick to this, and feel good about my combos. I hope it won't be too much, but I am using the "It will be done when we get it done" philosphy, rather than "We have to cram this all in within X amount of time". Tell me what you think. Spring 2013-Summer 2014 School Plans: Finish OM 4 (landscape projects, Indians, state study) S&D Finish Native American History Pockets (S&D) Finish Apologia Zoology 1 & Astronomy, w/lapbooks (S-Zoo.,D-Aston.) HOD Preparing-do the science portion w/ One Small Square Books (S&D) OM Environmental Science 5 (S) When OM 4 is finished, start Notgrass America the Beautiful & use it along with OM 5 (S mainly using OM, both using Notgrass) When Zoology 1 & Astronomy are finished, start Apologia Zoology 2 (Swimming Creatures) and new Apologia Chemistry & Physics (S&D) Dean has expressed interest in Roman History, so during the year, possibly after Christmas, add a Rome Unit Study-possibly Intellego When we get to the pioneers in history, do more of our Prairie Primer (hopefully it will fall at the end of year, so we can do it next summer) Math: Continue with TT & MUS for both, adding in Timez Attack and MM where needed LA: R&S for Dean, OM LA for Sophie, possibly adding a writing curriculum at end of next year. Music: Continue piano, add in small composer studies Art: not sure Bible: Apologia Who Is God? or something else I know it looks like a lot, but I really wanted to do OM but incorporate a Christian history component and like that Notgrass combines text book, living history books & timeline and mapping. We don't always do all of the experiments with Apologia Science, and next year we will be doing the Chemistry & Physics with another family. The Apol. Zoo. 2 we will do with very light notebooking. If we don't get to do/finsh Prairie Primer, we dont. Thoughts?
Shahrazad
I'm no expert (at all) but from here, I think it looks good, especially since you mention that you will take your time on it and not be forcing it into a limited time schedule. I'm actually trying to do quite similar to this idea (sans christian history) by combining a lot of WTM with Oak Meadow and plenty of living books ala CM so I like seeing someone else implementing things like this. Thanks for the feedback! Even though I love OM & the creativeness of it, I felt like I needed something anchor-like for our history, so I was considering either Notgrass or Abeka. I liked the fact that Notgrass is less textbookish & their use of real documents to add to the history. Same for science. I like my dd using OM, but I like having Apologia to sort of "guide" us, and with Apologia, we can either just read & do the few experiments, or I can have her use her MLB to record the pertinent facts. What things are you trying/hoping to add to your curriculum?
