what about finger prints? is it horrible?

Ours is brushed stainless steel (maybe they all are?). Minimal problem with fingerprints, especially with the number of magnets we have. :D

Yes, finger prints and other dirt and residues are horrible. I have a stainless trash can that I can't get to look clean and my stainless electric kettle is horrific looking as well.

I don't want anymore stainless items in my house.

But those are shiny stainless steel, right?

No, they both have matte finishes. Not like my pots.

(Oh, and I take back what I said about no more stainless. I'll buy pots and utensils. No more matte stainless)

I was thinking maybe the OP could take her kid(s) to the showroom with her to test it out. :)

which fridge do you have??

It's a Maytag, a couple years old. But with all the comments about fingerprints, I'm wondering if maybe I've got the only kids who use the door handle.

I had my own housecleaning business for 10 years and just stopped cleaning 4 months ago. I told my husband that I will never ever ever get stainless appliances. They look so good for the first month or so, and then it all goes downhill. They get fingerprints, but they also never recover from anything being spilled/splattered on them, you can't scratch something off if you didn't notice it and try to get it off later, you have to use the special stainless cleaner, and it ends up streaky no matter what you do or what brand you use. Yuck. I will stick with my goofy white appliances that I can clean.

The front of ours (probably almost ten years old) is not magnetic but the black sides are. It shows fingerprints horribly, though I have heard newer ones have a different finish that hides them much better.

This is ours. The front is not magnetic. The sides are. Its a pain :(

It doesn't show fingerprints because its its not shiny or anything.

Magnetic, shows prints, can be scratched, still would buy again. (I have these minions to do my bidding and my bidding includes them wiping it down frequently. :p )

that is a great idea....:)...

if I don't get stainless, i don't kow what I would get..I think white looks too sterile and black is too dark in my small kitchen...so I feel sort of stuck...UGH!

IIRC real stainless is not magnetic, but there are a lot of "looks like stainless" options now that are magnetic. We have the latter. It's brushed and does show fingerprints, but not terribly. I would buy it again. We don't have any issues with splashes not being able to be wiped off entirely. That would be awful!

In my previous kitchen I had all black. Talk about fingerprints! I hated the black, I had to clean all the appliances every day or they were covered in fingerprints.

Not all stainless steel is magnetic, but some is; it depends what's added and how during manufacture. If you purchase a sheet from a building supply store, it probably won't be magnetic.
