Maela
We are finishing up FLL 1 this year, and we'll do FLL 2 next year. For the year after that: I was considering dropping FLL and just doing Evan-Moor's Language Fundamentals plus Digging Into Diagramming. I think this would be cheaper than buying the IG and workbook of FLL 3 & 4 (I have TFB for other EM stuff we use). It also would allow dd to work more independently. Other plus: less repetition! Or would it be smarter to just stick with FLL the entire time? I hope this makes sense. :-)
Maela
Anyone have advice for me? I guess I'm just concerned that I'll regret abandoning FLL. Also considering using WWW instead of WWE after finishing WWE 2.
Dawn E
The only advice I'd give you is don't try to plan too far in advance. :) I'll give you a bump, though, so, hopefully, others with experience in the materials you mention can give you more helpful advice. You're right. I love planning too far in advance though! :-) thanks for the bump! I originally posted because I couldn't seem to find any threads comparing FLL/WWE to GWG/WWW, but now I'm finding some from searching google. zoo_keeper
I, too, can't stand this site's search function and do it all through google. FLL/WWE and GWG/WWW adopt two totally different approaches. I would gouge my eyes out is I had to use FLL/WWE. Don't get me wrong, we love SOTW and I'm seriously considering WWS, but the format of FLL and WWE is waaaaaay too scripted. To the point it gets my back up. However, it also doesn't fit our HS needs, in that I need a mixture of more independent materials for the girls to use while I'm at work, a goal that's impossible with FLL/WWE. This is why we chose GWG/WWW initially. We've gone through almost 4 levels of them, and they've fit our needs, but I must admit that I'm currently considering dropping them (temporarily, at least). We use several other grammar programs (e.g., MCT Town and KISS), that I'm wondering if I'm overdoing it and I think I may instead just add some editing and writing materials in place of GWG/WWW for a bit. But to return to your main question, taking a look at your eldest's age DID would be entirely too advanced. For reference, my eldest as mentioned above is in GWG/WWW 4 and I own DID but planned on putting it off until at least the end of GWG level 4, maybe even 5. I haven't looked through it since I opened it, but the level was farther ahead than I had expected (which is funny, since KISS level 1 Grade 2 is ahead of GWG 4, IMO, but I just don't think GWG 4 has covered enough of the technicalities of what belongs where in a diagramming model to attempt DID with earlier ages). Thanks for the reply! Yes, I just noticed that DID might be too hard. My daughter is advanced, but I'd probably need to wait another year for DID. I would love to have something more independent/less repetitive/not so slow-moving as FLL, but I also trust SWB.... It's so hard to decide! Well, next year is all planned out and ready to go, so I'll just wait and see how it goes with finishing WWE 1 & starting FLL 2 (supplementing with EM daily 6-trait and EM Language Fundamentals). Then I can make a decision.
