SKL
This is a purely non-substantive post - sorry! 5/6 of the way through the school year and every mention of "kids" or "school" seems to raise my blood pressure. Teacher negativity, kid inconsistency, and being sick for the past 6 weeks is finally getting to me. Of course I'm behind at work and domestically as well. Trying to make decisions for the summer and fall, and feeling borderline incompetent. Ugh. Is there an elixir that I can drink to get me through? I mean, I know I will keep on keepin' on, but I wish I could feel good some of the time. :/ Feel free to post your own frustrations if you have any, or advice if you have any, or put my whiny butt on ignore, LOL. :) I feel better already! mom2lydia
Just take it slow and do what has to be done. If you put some of these decisions for fall and summer off a little while you can make do with what you have and what you know for sure you want to do. Focus on getting your strength back, getting caught up at work and domestic. If your kids are old enough deligate some of the domestic responsiblities to them and to your spouse if you can. You can do this but you have to be healthy before taking on everything again so take it slowly.
Uff Da!
Can you take a couple nights off of doing extras? Breaks, even short ones, help.
kiwikate
Can you take a couple nights off of doing extras? Breaks, even short ones, help. Totally agree. I would take a couple of weeks off and let everyone recover and survive! You are really not going to lose too much in a short time.
fiberdrunk
Boy, I can relate. I had bronchitis during what little summer break we had last year, so I entered the school year already on fumes. I feel like I've been hanging on by my fingernails all year. See if you can drop whatever you're able. Maybe drink some chamomile tea. Have some chocolate or some other favorite nibbly and put on an old favorite movie. Hugs! You're not alone!
mathnerd
My year has been long and exhausting and I seem to have caught every flu bug in my county. And I have been running on caffeine and willpower for a while now. But, since there are only a few more weeks of school left, I can hang in there - summer is a whole another story, but it will be easier on my child. I am seriously contemplating the past year that went by and trying to see how I can streamline my system to make it more efficient so that I am not always behind in everything! Breaks surely help. Doing a different activity with your kids than is normal will leave you refreshed. In my case, we hardly visit museums or do any "crafty" stuff or play any board games (I hate those things!) - so I have started doing these with my child and it feels energizing and refreshing. SKL
The two weeks prior to this week were really hard. The kids had science tests on both Fridays, and more homework than usual, in addition to everything else. Friday is a bad day for extra stuff because the kids have extracurriculars all afternoon/evening on Thursdays. Also, the teacher suddenly started jumping around in math - chapter 11 then part of 15 then 19 then back to 15 and now back to 12 . . . it's pretty hard to stay ahead of the game. This week was better, but now I'm catching another bug! I am so sick of being sick. I have scaled back on the afterschooling out of necessity, but as my kid seems to be listening better in school (though still inconsistently), things seem to be going OK. Not super, but we'll survive. Thanks for the support, friends! :)
AnIslandGirl
We actually had to stop Thursday extracurriculars starting in second grade, as Fridays are rather test intensive here. The change has been wonderful, and I highly recommend switching evenings if you have the chance. Afterschooling when you are sick is no fun at all, but it sounds like you are finding a great balance. So many of my students are starting to get into what we refer to as the "Spring Slump". They get an itching to be outside, and we always seem to see the attention to detail deteriorate right around the first of May. Give yourself some slack... you can almost see the light at the end of this year's crazy tunnel!

The reason this week was not so bad was that my kids' class had the "national fitness tests" and a motivational assembly on Thursday, followed by "space camp" all day Friday. I'm guessing the reason the teacher jumped around in math was so she could hit some essentials (time and money) and then slow down. I hope so, anyway!
