Concussion!

So my 7 year old dd was sitting on the back of our couch on Wednesday evening, and my 5 year old dd climbed on her. They both fell of the couch, but the older one took the brunt of it and landing very hard on the back/top of her head onto our wood floor. She is my toughest kid(she didn't cry at all for Vacs) and she cried hard for at least 10 minutes. I had her lay down on the couch to evaluate the situation. After talking to my mom and a few concerning actions from her i.e. saying the ceiling was moving, her ear was plugged, she didn't want to get up, and her body shook on impact, I decided to take her in just to be safe. On the way to the ER she vomited. She also kept asking me why she couldn't just sleep. The hospital was awesome and got us in right away. Poor dd vomited again right after the Dr. evaluated her. The ER Dr. recommended a CT, so that is what we did. She was so sleepy, lethargic, and out of it that evening. Luckily everything looked good on the CT scan, so I was told she had a concussion and I took her home with orders for her to take it easy and to observe her for 24 hrs. I took her to see her regular DR. yesterday and he said she looked well. She is feeling much better today and just has a mild headache. I gave her some ibu for that. This is the first concussion for my kiddos, so I guess I was just looking for some commiserating and a few thoughts on what I should be doing with her as far as rest the next few days. I was told to keep her out of soccer for at least a week. Man kids are so crazy and stressful some times. :willy_nilly:

Do you have grey hair yet? You will... You won't REALLY get the grey hair until you have to call the ambulance.

Not sure yet about the gray hair but I'm only 29. The strange thing is I'm generally a worry wart but I was actually fairly calm. Kinda just running on adrenaline.

My son was playing with his brother and got a concussion here a few months ago. It was in our living room playing cops and robbers or something like that--so a similar thing. He also had similar symptoms (vision changes, extreme lethargy, then started puking). He also had a head CT that was clear. They told us to have him rest. He had a lingering headache for a few days. I read something about fish oil helping with healing, and the doctor told us to get him as much rest as possible--including cognitive rest. My son wasn't good with physical rest after that first day. But I did stop school for cognitive rest and tried to have him be careful for a while so we didn't get another soon after. Honestly, it upset me initially! There is all that stuff in the news about the harmful effects of concussions but what's done is done and he's fine!

Yeah, no school for her the last few days. Getting her to rest yesterday was easy but this evening not so much. I'm sure she will be just fine. ;)
