Mama Geek
Dd turns 3 before long. I am thinking of getting grandma to decorate a train cake, doing water balloons and face paint. It will be grandparents, parents, niece, aunt and uncle, and maybe dh's aunt and uncle. Any other fun suggestions? I also like the balloon within a balloon and confetti. AK_Mom4
A Drumset and an Air Horn? Just trying to think of things that 3yos like.... At age 3, my older kids were total Blue's Clues fans and younger DD was hooked on Dora the Explorer. So a treasure hunt with picture clues was always part of their birthday party. They had a great time following the clues and finding their presents!
Dahliarw
Pinata! That's always my kid's favorite, no matter the age. And you can put small toys in instead of candy if you want to avoid that. My oldest wants a pinata filled with legos at his next party!
Hilltop
My girls also enjoyed a pinata at that age. We opted for a "pull -string" pinata, instead of beating it with a bat/stick. I modified a store-bought pinata using directions I found online.
twoxcell
When my ds had a train party I bought all of the kids wooden train whistles.
Mama Geek
It will only be a couple of kids, dd, 8 year old niece and possibly a couple of young cousins if their mom doesn't have to work. Probably not enough kids for a pinata, although if I could come up with stuff to fill it with that older folks would like too that might work. I like the train whistle idea. GSOchristie
I have a general birthday fun board on Pinterest, http://pinterest.com/christiejarrard/general-birthday-fun/, that has ideas for games, prizes and decorations. One thing on there that I am going to try is a punch box, which is a piñata alternative. You could make it color coded so older kids punch certain colors with more mature prizes. We have never had a train party, but I have many other party themed boards :).
