Grammar - Want to add something for review... Spelling - Want to add something... had been using BJU through 6th Writing - Want to add something. She loves writing stories. KarenNC
Grammar---how about Daily Grams or Easy Grammar? Spelling----we liked Spelling Power, so that she only has to study the ones she doesn't know and the placement tests will give you a good level Other than that, are you interested in a foreign language or something for PE? We are enjoying Duolingo for Spanish (easy to implement and free---my daughter and I are both using it and she could do it on her own)---they also have French, Italian, Portugese. SilverMoon
Lit - Progeny Press and Memoria Press have guides that get good reviews. Grammar - Perhaps a Growing with Grammar workbook? (Both of mine used Rod and Staff's English) Spelling - Mine used Rod and Staff's Spelling by Sound and Structure. The 7 and 8 books are root based vocabulary, with a little bit of spelling worked in. If you are looking for strong phonetic spelling instruction, try the 6 book. (Don't measure placement by the word lists. The oomph is in the exercises.) Writing - My current 7th grader did some Lively Art of Writing, but we've mostly done our own thing. Next year she'll use Lost Tools of Writing. If you haven't done much for logic The Art of Argument is a great place to start. It's engaging and effective. The fairly new DVDs look pretty good, but they weren't available when we did AoA. It was a great course without them. Also, Art of Poetry from the same company was very much enjoyed by my seventh and eighth graders this year. Much more than they ever imagined. I only bought the TE and we did the course conversation based.
RootAnn
Grammar - Analytical Grammar (Season 1 or Seasons 1 & 2) Spelling - At this age, it is good to move to more vocab-oriented if their spelling is ok. SilverMoon's suggestion (R&S Sound & Structure) is vocab-based, so that would be fine. I've heard good things about Vocabulary Vine. (Also available through Rainbow Resources & Christianbook.) If you are looking for something more workbook-based, there is Vocabulary from Classical Roots. Book A is geared for 7th graders, I think. Writing - There are some suggestions in this thread. It would depend on what you want her to work on (essays? proper paragraph structure? creative writing?), what type of programs she's done before, and where you want her to be when she starts high school. Good luck. I'm going to have a 7th grader for the first time next year & I'm shaking in my boots. Here's the 7th grade planning thread if you want to see what others are thinking of doing. And, for kicks, here's the 8th grade thread if you want to see where people go next.
