lamolina
Hi- I am currently using R&S English 4 and 6. I like the lessons and I do feel it is thorough. The problem is that it feels like some of it could be combined. We don't need separate lessons on each type of verb but would prefer 1 lesson with all the types at once. Does that make sense? I think my kids are strong in language and that makes it feel like we could be moving along faster. Any recommendations on grammar programs that might still be rigorous and thorough but move a little faster? Christian or secular, either is fine with me. thanks! lamolina
Please help, I don't know if I can take another year of R&S!
Homeschoolmom4981
What about Climbing to Good English? It's $4 for workbook at rainbow resource and $7 for teacher manual. I had my friend compare it to R&S and she thought it looked preferable. Wish someone else could chime in on this. I'm curious myself. SilverMoon
That sounds like incorrect level placement? You could be moving faster by doing two lessons a day. My DC often do that when two easier grammar lessons land back-to-back. I think Analytical Grammar and Junior Analytical Grammar would move faster, just from the descriptions here. I haven't used it, but if you put JAG and AG you'll get gobs of threads discussing it.
PollyOR
Maybe you could have them just do the workbooks? Would that be enough?
boscopup
We sometimes have to combine R&S lessons. I also had to bump my son up a level. It's still easy, but he's not bored to tears at this level. I don't have to combine as much now that we're at a higher level. You're the teacher. Feel free to combine or skip lessons as needed! I skipped the lesson talking about "learn" vs. "teach". My 8 year old doesn't have any problem with that. In fact, he was correcting my 6 year old yesterday when the 6 year old was wanting to "learn" his 3 year old brother math. :D We combined a bunch of lessons at the beginning of the book, when it was the basics of sentences and nouns and such, which was all review. As to your question... JAG/AG are all I can think of. I haven't used them though.

Climbing to Good English, at least at the first few levels (I only can compare up to level 3) is very much like Rod & Staff, just in workbook format. I don't think the sequence is any more combined or moves any faster than R&S. I do like it though.
dtsmamtj
We loved JAG this year along with the mechanics book. Looking forward to AG next year!!
lamolina
Thanks everyone. We will try combining lessons and I will also look into AG and Climbing to Good English. I think we can get through this years books but I just don't know if I can handle doing 3 different levels of this once my youngest starts! By the time I do the second lesson my eyes are starting to glaze over a bit.
