I am thinking of working on basic paragraph writing and outlining with with rising 4th grader this summer prior to starting MP Classical composition in the fall.

Any suggestions for good curriculum to use from now until September to work on this?

We have done WWE 1-2 and MP Intro to Composition so we are good with narration and dictation, but have not really worked on much else.

For third grade paragraph writing, I have used Winning with Writing (grade 3, the second workbook only). I found it to be a very helpful step-by-step guide for my 3rd grader to learn solid paragraph writing. The Paragraph Book, level 1, has been highly recommended on this forum (though I have not used it yet). I am planning on using that one to supplement my writing program for 4th grade.

also, what were you using in conjunction with WWW3 as language arts? I'm curious because my DD8 (rising 3rd) might benefit from something like WWW3 but i already have IEW AFF and WWE3 chosen for her along with MCT town and she's already completed R&S 3/MCT island/IEW SWIa so i wonder if WWW3 would be pedantic and therefore something like the paragraph made easy or paragraph book would be better.

i've heard some people say that Paragraph Town from MCT is really helpful .... i have selected that to prepare us for WWS1. we did the Evan Moor Paragraph Writing workbook 2 years ago and i DIDN'T like it very much. we decided to just wait .....

Yes, that is the one I mean, though I haven't bought it yet. I am tentatively planning to use level 1 as a supplement for 4th grade and level 2 for 5th, etc. But as I said I haven't use them before. If you search old posts, Crimson Wife has used them and recommended them.

I used WWW3 (second workbook), IEW SWI-A, and an occasional lesson from WWE for 3rd grade writing. My son needed specific instruction on how to write a paragraph which he hadn't gotten from iEW, and I thought WWW3 did a fine job. I have not used any of the other resources mentioned here for paragraph writing, so I can't compare the quality of WWW to others. I am not familiar with what MCT town covers, but it sounds like your child may be ready for something of a higher level than WWW3. For grammar, I use R&S English on grade level skipping the composition exercises. For spelling, I have used Spelling Power and am now adding R&S Spelling because I think we need more work in that area. That is my basic plan for writing, grammar, and spelling. Other items I use for language arts include Vocabulary Workshop workbook and Evan Moor Skill Sharpeners Reading workbook.
