amsunshine
I have a copy of Campbell's Exploring Life text and really like it. I'm really disappointed it's gone out of print. I don't like the Miller/Levine text quite as much. For those of you that have used it with the accompanying cd-rom for the "online activities", can you tell me if the cd-rom has all the activities on it? From what I understand, the website for this book no longer exists/works. I'm confused about the cd-rom, though, because of the fact that it says "online activities" on it. Are the activities on the cd-rom independent of the website -- or will I require access to the website to complete some or all of the activities? I don't want to purchase the cd-rom and then find out it's un-usable without access to the website. Thanks for any assistance.
Corraleno
Unless you have a really old PC, I don't think the cd-rom will work anyway. They never updated it beyond about Windows 2000. It included some, but not all, of the activities that are on the website. I agree that it's really a shame PH abandoned Exploring Life after Campbell died, and focused all their energies on the Miller Levine text. ML is certainly pretty, but I don't think the content is written at the same level at all. Jackie
amsunshine
Oh, what a shame! I never thought about the cd-rom not working at all. Darn. Well, I'm determined to use EL anyway with the TM at least. I looked thoroughly at ML and no matter how hard I tried (because I knew Campbell was oop), I just did not like it at all. Thanks for your helpful reply!
kangato3
The CD-rom does have all the activities, with the exception of the WebQuests found at the beginning of the chapter, which require access to the website. We did not like the WebQuests anyway because it has the student answer a lot of questions. We do like all the other activities. We have gotten the CD-rom to work on Windows 7 by doing the following after it was installed: When disk is put in, instead of choosing the option to run program, choose open files. Click on Setup. Another box pops up - choose launch program It's a little quirky, but it works. Also when I purchased a lab manual from PH, I also ordered the Teachers Online Access Pack. All the online activities still work with the teacher access login.
