Ravin
Due to my intensive schedule for summer and the lack of kids in the neighborhood when it heats up, we're planning in enrolling DD in a fun day camp for the summer. In this situation, would you continue lessons in core subjects? I want to keep Latin in review, keep going at a slower pace in math, and keep up spelling. HelenNotOfTroy
If it is all day 5 days a week, I would keep academics to a minimum. Oh, what do I know, I only have a kindergartener.
Ellie
So, for how many weeks is this day camp? Is it all day, or half a day? If it's only a week or two, I wouldn't try to add anything to her day. If it's only half a day, it couldn't hurt, I guess.
melmichigan
My older kids go to day camp for about six weeks every summer. They are gone from 10am-3pm, Monday-Thursday. When they come home they are ready for a break after running around outside for five hours. We continue math at a little slower pace, spend a few minutes on spelling (a weakness for two of mine), and they each read independently or I do a read aloud together. It takes less than an hour and keeps things fresh. By the time we are done they are ready to tackle chores and head back outside. On Friday we do the same, plus add in something fun with science and spend a little time on individual weaknesses.
FriedClams
I run a Cub Scout day camp - 9 to 3 for a week in the summer. I have kids falling asleep at lunch - so I give my kids that week off. I think it's unlikely you kids will get anything out of schooling during busy camp weeks.
Ravin
It'll be for 10-12 weeks, full days 8-4 or 7:30-5 for part of it. I'm mostly thinking about weekends, and stuff for on the bus to and from.
momma2three
No, I wouldn't. Camp is exhausting. On the bus, they'll be hanging out with their friends! I'd probably still encourage silent reading time before bed, of course.

Rebecca also has an intensive gymnastics schedule in the summer, and it's all she can do to do a Summer Bridge page on those days.
Ravin
The bus I refer to is the city bus, which she'll be riding to/from with her brother and I every day (the camp is on the university campus, as is DS's daycare). I won't expect much of her in the evenings, we'll pretty much be getting home, eating, and going to bed. But on the weekends, when it's too hot to go outside to play (which it is here pretty much every day by 9am)...?

That's when children tend to be most creative. :D
Ravin
Mostly she winds up playing a good deal of Wii or demanding my attention for this and that. I'm also concerned about the hard-won progress she's made falling back out of her head. Maybe it would be asking too much of her.
