mommyx4
Has anyone here written up any lesson plans to go with these two together that they'd be willing to share? Also, in looking at HO teacher's manual and student pages, it's hard to get a feel if they are worth it. We are planning on reading HO, probably Dorothy Mills as well as some historical fiction. Doing Mapping the World with Art, a timeline, some outlining and then I'm not sure what else. To be honest, it has to be pretty easy for me. I'll have two 6th graders, a toddler and a baby. What do you think? PS I looked at the Oxford series but it's way to expensive for us to buy this year so that's why I haven't included it. sagira
I'll be combining Dorothy Mills and K12 HO with ds10 next year. I'm not going to get the student pages, but for the DM books I'm turning to the free Book Notes offered by our fellow WTMer Kfamily she has provided on her blog A Mind in the Light. I'm not interested in adding the Oxford series as that would be too much and too detailed. Keep it simple. That said, for Geography we're diving into A Child's Geography Volume 2: Exploring The Holy Land and ACG Volume 3: The Classical World. This way we cover Egypt, Greece, and Italy. I think we may be attempting Latin with Lively Latin, which also includes some supporting history. How is it going with combining DM and HO books? sagira
Is anybody else doing this combination?
Mandy in TN
Are you just going to use both the Middle Ages and Renaissance & Reformation? Mandy ETA- oops are you doing ancients next?
sagira
Yes, I'm doing ancients with DM's Book of The Ancient World, Book of The Greeks, and Book of the Romans. I also have K12 Human Odyssey Prehistory to Middle Ages. We are covering just the ancients, though. It's busy enough as it is! Maybe it's madness to combine the two. ETA: I think it's a better idea to concentrate on Egypt, Greece, and Rome and leave the other cultures for a summer course. What do you think? ETA: I think it's a better idea to concentrate on Egypt, Greece, and Rome and leave the other cultures for a summer course. What do you think? Well, we're just doing Egypt, Greece, and Rome, but we aren't using Dorothy Mills. We are using The Paraohs of Ancient Egypt by Elizabeth Payne, The Story of the Greeks by HA Guerber, and The Story of the Romans by HA Guerber. I tried using a textbook and ended up ditching it. So, I guess for my ds I voted Egypt, Greece, and Rome. We are adding in some stuff, but not a textbook. I was considering using Dorothy Mills Middle Ages first semester and Renaissance & Reformation second semester, but I was wondering if that might be too much. I have been looking at other options. Maybe, this same time period using Van Loon's The Story of Mankind or maybe The Age of Discovery and The Age of Revolution by Charles Kovacs. We are going to use Augustus Caesar's World this year, and, if that goes well, I may use a couple of her books next year- 1 first semester and 1 second. I just don't know. :) Mandy
sagira
I like the flow of K12 HO.. It doesn't read like a textbook and the pictures support the text. The section on Egypt is surprisingly small (only two chapters), so perhaps I could do both as my plan is to do 12 weeks of Ancient Egypt and 14 weeks each of Ancient Greece and Rome. Would you know I also have Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt on our list? Too many resources, so little time!
